Great work STM
If you had access to a car like this, would you take it back right away? Neither would I.

Re: Patchy's Fawlty Towers risk management. Enter at own risk
Yesterday was about checking clearance
Unfortunately I didn't take any pick I totally got so involved I only took a pic of before.... not after

Essentially it cleared
Phew.
Gotta be so careful with the OEM head gasket. It's so easy to trash if your not carefull taking the head on& off.
Bolts got cleaned with metho & wire brush to make sure they were clean & easily tightened up. I had a bit of oil in 2 of the holes so that took a bit of time to clean up nicely.
Of course with visitors around various parts of the day last night it wouldn't start, eventually a dead battery. I also realised I hadn't connected the AFM at one stage duhhh
So it was left for the night in favour of a few burbounes
and some more guests.
This morning i also realised I got the timing totally off.
seriously I should be able to do it blindfolded theses days.
Anyway she kicked over & started.
She sounded a bit tiny at first but it was prolly the HLA's just doing thier thing until oil reached inside them. It was fine after a while.
Unfortunately she's out of rego so I can't drive her.
But she idles on about 800-850. Real deep sound. .....I'm surprised though with the cams. Apart from the deep throaty idle she's sounding solid. I do have a windy noise. A bit like a supercharger but I feel it's coming from the timing belt.
I do need to get a soldering iron to attach a earth wire connected to the head near the CAS just near the fuel rail. Currently it's just taped on but engine will stop if it gets disconnected.
Next step is to sort out the electrical under the dash. A few more wires have dodgy connection on the flasher box. I'll get that sorted& if that doesn't sort it the dash is coming out.
Lights are working again.
If it wasn't so early I'd be having a drink right now.
Merry Christmas everyone

Great stuff STM - from a quick look back over the last few weeks, just needed to replace Cometic head gasket with OEM one & clean & replace some HLAs? Of course, a lot of checking/measuring/testing to ID issues, but that's ultimately a good result considering the slight noise it was making before.

The fact that I'm seriously elated us somewhat of an understatement . I was soo tempted to give her a bit of a spin up the road & back . Arrrrrgh!!!! I just can't risk it.imagine that getting pulled over by the cops. Getting fined for driving an unregistered car. And then get a tow truck to tow her 1 km home. Far out.... )
I've sorted the electrical issues.
I've gone out the front to start her up aboy 5 times in the las hr or 2

Put the battery on charge and go register her

Re: Patchy's Fawlty Towers risk management. Enter at own risk
Battery was charged the night before. Yesterday was more about dealing with the electrical issues. Yesterday at lunch I had found the problem but not actually addressed & fixed it properly. Afternoon was spent getting a soldering iron & electrical connectors. I had to re connect one wire into the hazard light harness . As well as another dodgy wire had an issue further up with a dodgy soldering connection done before I owned it. As well as trying to keep all the wiring mess underneath the dash, within the dash. Originally it was thought that the alarm was the issue , but thankfully not. These issues have been there but have been a side show. She also got Cleaned & washed.
Horn & one number plate light got addressed as well.
I'll have a ring around today if I can get a rego check anywhere. The usual place is closed.

Found a place for rego check. But there was dramas this morning
Early this morning I spotted a water leak under the intake Plenum. Figured I'd fix that so I'd have a clear mind about passing rego check. The water comes out & goes to the idle valve thingy under the front.
The farking nipple where the hose connects broke off.
Hope there is a simple fix.

The metal nipple, oh crap!
Up top or down below?
You could be ok if you still have enough metal to clamp the hose to.

I answered in your other thread but you could possibly take it off and clean it up and braise a barb on.
Probably just as easy to replace.
It's really unlucky!

So I got excited about patchy idling so well
You've probably all seen it on Facebook
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=4IVB4Cfvv4M
Ignore the heavy breathing at the end.
So today I got bored. Decided to install the LC2 controller with wideband O2 sensor running on the Stock ECU
Together with the display
I thought it was supposed to be green to go with the radio colours . But mehhhh red will do.
I thought I read somewhere that you can change the colour . That would be cool. But that's for another day.

Great start to 2017, when does Lukas get to go his first track day?

If you had access to a car like this, would you take it back right away? Neither would I.

He is unlikely to see the track anytime soon. He's bike (pushbike) mad. It may take some convincing.

The wiring for the LS2 looked somewhat messy
After a bit of taping up it looked somewhat tidier
It then went next to the ECU under the carpet. I figured I don't need to see the green light. The connection to access via Pc is also in place. It all works.
Once the Megasquirt goes in , it's a matter of changing 1 wire to get the wideband signal. It's already attached into the loom.
Car need a vacuumed as well
