NA's - Show me your instrument clusters, PLEASE

Postby speed » Wed Dec 21, 2016 5:43 pm

I'm looking for inspiration on what to do with my NA6 cluster and wondering what others have done.

There seems to be quite a few of the NB crew with blue LED's, chrome rings, modified bulb holders and even digital readouts.

I'm using a MS2 if that helps me any and also a NB soft top with demister.

Annoyingly, i have a small crack in the clear screen under my tacho :(

I'd like to have the demister symbol on my cluster or possibly convert to a NA8 cluster to make it work and not see that crack again!

Can I also have blue LED's and red needles that light up?

What other custom goodness is available to me?

Please show me what you've got.
I appreciate any advice or suggestions you may have.

Cheers,
Steve

I'm not sure this sort of thing is what you are looking for...

A combination of Artworks Dewa and RS Refine for the main gauges, and a home made fibreglass job on the binnacle to add the gauge pods. It really is a brilliant place for them.

You can change the colour of the bulbs either with little coloured condoms like the green ones that the cluster comes with or by getting LEDs in your preferred colour. You really need to get the LEDs with little bulbs pointing in all directions, as the ones with a flat face of bulbs tends to not scatter very well and make some of the cluster darker.

An NA8 cluster will be a direct plug in if you have the demister wiring sorted.

For the nice clusters like this keen an eye out on yahoo.co.jp and see Rupewrecht about procuring one. You can also buy very cool gauge faces from Revlimiter.net.

Holy feck that's beautiful, slug.
Continuing the slightly off topic clusters:

It's also for sale...

I have the defroster light steve, but I'm not sure it will work with the na6 plastic cover. It actually attaches to to na8 plastic cover part (not the instrument binnacle itslef) which has a squre cut out for it.

Have a read through RevLimiter's NA and NB Gauge Face install tutorial.
http://revlimiter.net/mods/gauge_install.php
http://revlimiter.net/mods/nb_gauge_install.php

Though not exactly what you're looking for, it covers changing bulbs and rewiring/re-positioning signal lights, with lots of detailed pictures. Even something about the defroster, though I'm not sure it's exactly what you need. I'm sure you could infer a lot of what you're looking for from the details.

His store is a one-stop shop for everything you need to make an awesome cluster. There even some gauge lenses that will do away with the plexi, and place lenses over each gauge.

Slug_dub, thanks for kicking this off.
Your cluster looks amazing.

Appreciate the tips re the LED's and confirmation that the Na8 is a direct replacement.

Well played Tim. Looks very functional.

I do like it but fear I'd spend a small fortune on the test of my interior to tie it all in.
Will be on the lookout for a na8 cluster to get me started.

Mark, is the old an Na8 cluster, as mine doesn't have the light above the fuel guage?
The new dash looks very purposeful and I bet gives you much information for analysis.

Thanks Lachy,
I will be sure to check it out in more detail when I can.

No it is a NA6 cluster and the light above the fuel is for the demister (if installed). From memory there was not even a light globe installed.

The faces are from Rev limiter, simple to install and give a very unique look.

I actually miss my old dash, however somebody on the forum gets to look at it every time they drive their NA6, so it has gone to a better place :(

The new dash (IQ3 logging) is VERY functional, however is let down by the data analysis software, unlike the Motec data analysis software that used by Tim_cyc03 :(

Don't be sad Mark, I'll still let you look at it any time you want.

Assuming you are reffering to the Revlimiter lenses and garage5 rings, there are now only two sets left available for NA models, none for NB and one set stuck somewhere in an oz post depot rather than under the xmas tree for me.

I checked out Revlimiter.
Do they do a speedo that are in km only?

The clocked guages looked interesting but probably not my thing.

Can you actually buy them for less than 129 USD without the tools?

Found these Lockwood faces in the UK. Interesting but the more I look at guage faces the fussier I'm becoming!

I'd like to see the effect of the green illumination.

Image

They're only 30 GBP and stated to be good quality.

Would prefer that it had the roadster logo than the Lockwood brand and not sure that I'm into white but it is certainly more refreshing than what I have.

What do you think and is there any other places that would do faces?

Revs faces are expensive but they are genuinely works of art.
Jass performance do metal gauge faces now. They do them in black brushed stainless which look very swish.

A quick pic to show the extent of options available from revlimiter. 9 and 3 zero position, psi and °c on oil pressure and temp, range and scale changed on speedo and tacho. You can get pretty crazy with the design.
Blue gel filters were baked into the back of the gauges otherwise using blue leds would have the red needles looking purple. In fact painting the needles red (following Adams' how to on site) was the only annoying part of the project.
I'd recommend Revlimiter on the customer service alone, i had proof copies of my hack design within hours of confirming order. The whole process was done with a few quick back and forth emails and Adam was steps ahead of me with little things like the tacho redline increase and psi oil pressure, i even managed to have my 'ghettobuilt' logo designed and inserted into the tacho face with a vague description and link to a website containing the particular font required.
The parcel was showered with little gifts including pokemon artwork for my daughter, going the extra mile for customer satisfaction.
I wont mention total cost, don't want it broadcast lest i end up on the naughty list at this late hour but definately worth it.

They are beautiful and let's face it (no pun intended) I would be spending a large amount of time looking at them whilst driving.

You're twisting my rubber arm!

I probably shouldn't have told my wife what they cost and what she thought, as her reply was that the standard ones look fine.

The 3 and 9 positions look great.

Will probably take me some time to actually work out what I want but I do like some of those old school mazda options.

Thanks guys, appreciate your feedback.
