Otherwise, can be sourced very cheaply on eBay.

That's very thoughtful. I'm in Sydney, and around all over the place.
PM me if you are in Syd also :D

That is very clever. Does a warning chime sound too?

I'd like to mod my cluster but don't have the options that the NB crowd does :(

Have just traded in our 2001 Subaru outback on a 2015 model as the primary means of transport. Was expecting it to have led DRLs. Was surprised to find that there are two incandescent bulbs in the fog light housing. One of the bulbs is for DRL purposes. Will be interesting to see of the police take any interest.

Also, has anyone else noticed that some new vehicles seem to be stepping back from the use of bright white led DRLs and seem to be using either incandescent bulbs, or a warm white led. Seems strange to me as I would have thought the bright white was better due to being more visible at distance?

That is a bit odd ( Subaru) . Incandescent was all that was available years ago. looking at an old catalog there was a listing og one lamp with 12v 21W bulbs and another with 6W mini halogen. Not white like a LED but incandescent will do the job.
