Are you using 2 pac or acrylic? Or something else?

certainly works I can say that for sure. if not I would be in one mess with a pulled downed car and numerous parts everywhere
danny
just using acrylic. that's all I have ever used. no-where to spray anything else like 2 pac plus no experience with anything else either
so best I stay in this area where I have a rough idea on what to do.
and sometimes it is rough too

4l is a lot of paint for an mx5, so you will have plenty spare for any touch ups later on if needed.
If you can paint acrylic then you can paint 2 pak.
You just need a better respirator.
I've found that there is less work with 2 pak as the finish off the gun is usually better and no need to sand between, rather just the buff at the end.
2 pak should last longer too with less fade over the years
I'm glad you've decided on a colour and are getting into it.

Re: billybunters - from a bmw z4 to a mx5 se
I have a few things to sort out first. the weathers not good. I also have to get the lotus out of here in case I get red drift spray over the green car
well I probably wouldn't be
so she is keen to take delivery for a few days. I am at the point where I am ready to do the full prime on bonnet and boot and all the big stuff is completed
I will have reserve paint for sure. 300 rwhp or not I don't know if it can pull 4 litres of red along too
but over the years I've found out the hard way - if I buy 2 or 3 litres and spill or kick some over etc I could have had 4 litres for the same price
yesterday the clear coat was a good example. got the daughter to get me 1 litre. she came back with the can and I looked at it and thought -I can't go the distance with that - how much. she replied $73 and I said 73 f...en $$$
or you could have had the 5 litre tin for $200
so in the end it was 5 litres for me
there's no way out of this job so it's not a $650 budget as first thought but will cost $1000 to do it.
that's no big deal I suppose looking back at my thread 6 years back the white cost $650 to complete and this time it's 6 years down the track prices are up and I am using better material for the job.
so I guess we will see what happens but first out with that lotus

weather improved later today so rather than let the day get away uneventful I managed to prime both sides of the bonnet and boot lid

There is a high chance that your excursions with spray painting has made the car unsellable. But hey you don't want to sell it anyway.

Any heavily modified car is hard to shift, I think billybunter is at the stage of 'one more tweak isn't going to hurt.'
That being said, if I was going to buy another 5 I'd be on the phone trying to convince him to sell it to me.

Re: billybunters - from a bmw z4 to a mx5 se
well there's actually two problems associated with this car
1. I like the car
plus it has great sentimental value with those high speed runs in the northern territory. I doubt even if I was offered $20k i'd sell it. besides $20k next years will be just a few bird sales .....and I mean few
there will be very big $$$ flying about next year
2. eldest daughter in the photo = I told her a few weeks ago she could have it when I have had enough of it. but first off I have to improve that paint job
or try too
after that i'd like to go either to a nd or back to a motorbike or both. I actually like riding the bike better than the mazda or the lotus.
so to cap it off
painting first up
power upgrade second to go to 350 plus rwhp
bike following
probably an nd
now I don't know exactly when this will take place but it will happen

I disagree. We can see the effort that has gone into a proper rub down and re spray.

Looking better than the first time. Aren't you worried about getting paint onto the carpet?
