Seems unanimous then- use DRLs and dismiss the other silly ideas. There are always a few outliers who have not noticed that all new cars have drls.

Re: Constant use of foglights
I ride a motorcycle, so the headlights are on low beam by default; as soon as you switch on the ignition, the lights come on.
On my NC you can't turn the fog-lights on unless the headlights are on first..
But, legality aside, why would you want to? If you think you need to be better seen, just run your parking lights, or if you're really paranoid, your headlights.....

Headlights will be more visible than the fog lights if concerned about being seen.
Better idea if you don't want to run with the headlights on is fit one of the Philips DRL kits. Reasonable cost, looks pretty easy to fit, efficient and legal.

This is (basically) what I did, gets the same result as headlights if not better, LED so low power draw, Legal.

BTW, fog lights only need the parkers on to work, not the headlights.

Thanks guys.

Re: Constant use of foglights
One of my friends works for a company that has fleet cars - lots of miles. It's a fleet rule that all cars have to be dríven with headlights on at all times. I understand this is because the company was large enough that it could see in its data that cars w/o headlights on had more accidents. No idea how true the story is - but true enough for me to always drive with headlights on.

Note, it's not as convenient on the NA with the barn doors. But, I've wired up the front indicators to act as DRLs on my NA.

Re: Constant use of foglights
Headlights are statistically safer compared to nothing, but especially this time of year in the evening DRLs are much easier to see. Their bright white light stands out much better against the yellow sun compared to headlights.
If you don't care about aesthetics I'd just plonk a cheap pair from super-auto-co on the front of your car.

Re: Constant use of foglights
I checked the Narva website. Would I be correct in saying that the fog lights on the SE were removed and replaced by the Narva light. Was it a problem to mount it e.g. do the lugs have to be modified - how is it held in place? Certainly being able to replace with the same size insert is a good idea. It should look really good and fully legal with width and height.

Generally accepted lights on statistically leads to fewer crashes, or so the data shows.
Volvos were rubbished for this back in the 70s.
Venerable 240 GL s were the only car on the road with permanent parkers as DRLs.

Re: Constant use of foglights
When I was younger I had my foggies on during the day on my Mini because I thought it looked cool, I stopped when my mate got pulled over and lectured by the cops, they let him off for the foggies but they defected him for 3 other things on his car, I guess you could say the foggies on during the day attracted them.
Fog lights are distracting to other drivers, hell you may as well just drive around with your high beams on all the time.
You have said you know it's against the law.
I have pointed out how much of a pain in the ass it is to other drivers.
Why would you want them on? Have you had an accident where someone said they couldn't see your car during the day? I would say that's more on them than your car unless you have a button marked "Stealth mode".
