Mazda designed the MX5 as a roadster
I bought an MX5 because it's a roadster
99% of those on club runs have the roof down
If you believe that fixing a roof to a roadster shows you have marvelous independent thinking....then I'm more than Happy to be one of the mob who hasn't totally missed the point of Mazda's 25 year concept for this car
If that's mindless thinking then I'm Happy with that and no doubt so are the rest of the mob ;)

I can't think of a 2 seater coupe that has a 25 year build history....can you?

90+% of cars on the road have a fixed roof
I'd suggest only a small % of people that own convertibles or roadster drive them top down all the time....they are the ones with independent thinking....different to the other 99% of people with roofs on their cars ;)

I use to feel guilty about driving my MX-5 anytime with the roof up. These days I have some "independent thinking" and decide for myself if I want it up or not. I can't do that with a hard top fitted. Why my hard top has been stored untouched in the spare room for over two years

But seriously guys...each to their own!! Who cares how anyone else enjoys their MX as long as we all enjoy!!!

99% of those at race meetings have the roof up (hard or soft...the roof, that is). Both statistics are understandable and make sense.

Nissan Z cars have, arguably, survived for most of 47 years, although they occasionally had 4 seat and convertible models available. What about the Chev Corvette...more than 60 years now, although they too did have the convertible option. Seems a shame Mazda won't do the same with the MX5 (but I don't want to see a 4 seater model!).

"The" concept implies singular, which is where you'd be quite wrong. The MX5 embodies many concepts and here are just a few recent examples:

People like certain concepts more than others, but all are legitimate in representing a certain ideal.
You may be passionate about one concept, but to proffer it as the only one of legitimacy (i.e. "the" concept) is not excessive, it's exemplary of independent thinking and a deficit of critical thinking.

Lets not turn this into an arcane debate . It will probably not surprise anyone but I agree 100% with Odd. His post ,to me ,was a brilliant overview of what the MX-5 is and how its recognised by the Motoring press and enthusiasts. The 124 fastback may find a market afterall there are many coupes and tin tops out there and selling more across the board.
