Hey guys, got a few questions,
I was thinking of getting a full tan interior for my car, how would you guys think of a red and tan combo
I think it would look awesome and be very rear combination. I'm really considering it and got a good deal in the works give us your opinion please.

so lets do an update,
today got to change the gearbox fluid. it was dirty and brown so changed it with new fluid and replaced the drain plug as i thought it would be good practice for a 21year old car. Used my giant syringe to fill the gearbox with new fluid, and also cleaned and degreased the engine and gearbox. Could use more cleaning but i ran out of brake cleaner and degreaser.

While i was under the car found that there was a few scraps from the car being grounded a bit. nothing major but just scratches on the bracing. So i decided to give it a little touch up to make it look nice again

that all when smoothly and plan to take it thru all the gears this weekend. Also finally got my new cover for the fuel tank. brand new i decided to give it a little coat of paint so it would not rust in the future.

Now thats sorted the car is really coming together nicely and doesn't smell like rust anymore so happy with how its coming around.
While i had the car in the air i decided to remove the front bar from the car to i could give the engine bay and front section a good clean, When removed i found the front end to be all original never been in a accident, really happy with the condition the car is in. BTW removing that front bar is a really struggle ahha but i got it off.

Have more parts and coming and timing parts are almost sorted. Tan interior is on the table still not sure weather that gonna happen yet or not but its definitely getting considered atm. Didn't get to put the rear bar on but most likely get it on soon (maybe this weekend) and also front bar needs to be cleaned and put back on. gonna get a quote on a respray for the front bar mirrors and rear garnish.
Anyone recommend a place in Sydney for a paint job?
Was looking to change the rear garnish to the na6 garnish because i think it looks better what do you guys think?
also need to run wiring for the soft top. thats gonna be a fun job aahah ill try get as much info as possible on that.
Let me know whats you guys think.

Great progress - Tan and red looks good. They do come from the factory like that, I considered buying one in that combo before I bought my SE.
Can't believe all the work you've done and I still haven't been able to install my boost gauge...
BTW where do you source all your parts? Amayama?

Thanks man, Im hoping to be done by the end of next month ahaha, Probs not gonna happen as all projects do.
Yea mostly get small things and hard to find thing from Amayama, but also use mx5 mania and forum pages as well to find parts. been trying to find mostly options but struggling to get them all. ahah

I also prefer the na6 rear garnish. If it matters to you then get one but keep the Na8 one for if you ever sell the car

Both Garnishes were available on the NA6.
The change came sometime in 1991 or 1992 really don't recall exactly
I had a mariner blue with the Original garnish a good mate got a red NA6 about 12 mths later with the newer Garnish. Not sure if this was an AUDM thing or world wide as EU would probably have had the wider version from start as their number plates are wider
stating the obvious here but changing the Garnish will also require changing the number plate lights

After you take the front bumper off for the fifth time it gets pretty easy
Good idea painting the fuel pump cover now to avoid problems in the future.

My dash has been painted for almost a year and still looks perfect, so it can be done if you put the effort in. It's all in the preparation. This video is a good start (Watch all of his videos, he makes a V8 Simpson Design MX5 which is awesome):
The Tri-Sodium Phosphate product can be bought at Bunnings (Marketed as Tri-Cleanium):

I cleaned first with dish soap, then three rounds of Tri-Cleanium, then a couple rounds of Wax and Grease remover.
Next step is to lay down plastic primer (I used two coats), then lay your colour down. Your colour will be regular acrylic since the dash plastic is hard; you don't need vinyl paint.
Two pieces of advice:
a) Go to a proper auto paint store and chat to them, they sell good stuff and can colour match properly and put it in an aerosol.
b) Have a hunt around for a factory tan dash first. It was easier for me to paint my dash because red is a hard to find colour here in Aus. Tan should be a bit easier.

You are the real MVP man ahah, well sourcing a good condition tan dash in sis is hard bc most of them are faded, I'm thinking about going the route you when and ordering a full new interior and make it look as best as possible, might not happen for a while but I think it would be best that way.
I love the look of your car ahah and I've must have read your posted about 100 times because it's so interesting
