NA6 Indicators , Hazzard lights, Retractors not working

Postby StanTheMan » Thu Nov 24, 2016 7:45 am

After getting he head refreshed recently & after being put back together again My indicators, Flashers & re-tractors are not working.

All fuses have been tested
All relays are working or at least make noise

indicators
green Lights on the dashboard when indicator is on don't work
no globes go on
the indicators flasher unit makes noise has been tested & is OK.

Hazzard Lights
Flasher uint /indicator unit under dash makes noise
no lights go on on dash
No lights are flashing outside

Retractors
Dont respond
lights go on
manual button has no response.
Relay in engine bay clicks (L12)

The engine has 2 earth wires attaching the engine to the chasis. they are both clean & attached tightly. Is there another that Ive missed?
The battery is attached correctly, clean & tight

When the alarm is activated. Lights flash briefly on dashboard & outside.

wiring on dashboard for Hazard & Re-tractor is attached & clean. Is there another 2nd relay under dash for indicators?

I might be about to ask a silly question but..... have you had the tombstone out recently? I remember having a similar issue when I forgot to plug in the Hazard/retractor plug.

Tombstone wasnt taken out while engine repairs were done. Not for years.

tombstone was taken out to check plug because of issues I'm having

Plug is in 100%

nothing is ever silly in my threads. I'm a Clown. I've been known make silly mistakes. (eg had the fuel lines the wrong way around the other day)Great of you to check.

I wonder if there's been a mass bulb blow out? Only answers part of your question though.

when the alarm goes on, All bulbs work. :?

I just hope it doesn't have anything to do with the alarm.
This would potentailly mean. dash out. Rewire.......

or at lease rewire all wires which go into the alarm system.

Its a real nightmare under my dash

I'd probably agree with "bigdog" Re- The Immobilizer/alarm...... But from searching around I've found two links that could be root cause to the issue, & might be worth a look into "because of the age of the vehicle." Time to get on the wiring diagrams & grab out the Multi Meter.

If I wasn't so far away I'd offer to lend a hand (I like dealing with electrical gremlins)

Nothing different to above posts to add. Did a quick search earlier as I was initially thinking the 'Room' fuse under the dash, but it didn't tally & you'd checked fuses anyway.

Check all the grounds (near washer bottle, alarm grounds, ground near c.a.s and i think near the passenger headlight?)
had issues like these but cleaning the grounds and removing the dodgy alarm fixed my issues and idle!
also check wiring under dash
Good luck finding the problem! :D

Update

Problem was a number of things.

1 wire had broken off on the flasher unit. Another wire had a dodgy connection.

The hazzard switch is intermittent it needs to be replaced. The hazards don't work currently but will once the unit is replaced. When it goes for the pink slip at end of month. The car is unregistered currently.
The flasher unit was also replaced
