If I can get it under 9/10k would it be worth it? Then Spend 3-5k on mods
Or am I better to go for an original SE and pay around 14-15k

Currently, too many unknowns, so only worth paying about $5k, as on top of the 3-5.k on mods, you may have another 3-5k on fixes. Keep it simple, buy a decent one to begin with.

If not already seen, this might help you decide:
http://www.mx5cartalk.com/SP_SE_Comparison/
This is the best SP for sale:

Btw, I doubt the so called SP currently advertised on Carsales.com is an SP:

Thanks man. I saw that one and was going to post it asking if that too was a genuine SP lol. Couldn't see the SP "winged" badges and they don't have a proper engine picture.

The SP you posted before is nice but too expensive for me and TBH I like the SE trim and kit/Colour (that gun metal grey with shadowed lights is pretty much Porn!)

If you come across any good purchases please push them my way. I arrive home on the 12th December and want a MX5 before Christmas. I don't care where I have to fly/drive to get it.

So pretty much the best combo is the SE box/diff interior/exterior but the SP engine.

50 more ponies and way more torque on the SP though. That's just makes me wonder can I sacrifice the looks for the better "stock" performance.

Decisions decisions :?

SPs tend to bend rods. Most have done it.

They only bend a little bit and you hear a tic tic tic tic tic tic tic tic. Its the actual rod hitting the piston bore but if you ignore it long enough it goes away............. or blows up. Whichever comes first :D :D

If you aren''t confident, just walk away and find another.

I would never buy a car labelled as an 'SE' if it had NB8A tail lights, NB8A dash cluster, NB8A wheels, No SE badge.

even if I had the choice between a stock standard SE and nothing -id take a motorbike  if ever I drove a gutless car it was a stock SE  BUT with just an aem cai and downpipe it transformed it immediately power wise and was quite good bang for very little outlay. plus it also tossed in a few mod problems too.

I always thought the aem cai was better than the begi in performance delivery. I ran both on swap over and could easily pick the power difference. but the begi get away with it.......more stelth looking

so some might like standard but for a few extra $$$ it will get up and go..........even as far as the northern territory

Yer I know it's been written about time and time again. I'd love to get a clean NB8B and send it to you with cash but I'm in Melbourne so that plans out the window.

You'd be the 5th or 6th Melbourne car here this year...

Yep, will cost about $600 (CEVA) to send it up and then a $70 plane ticket to pick it up. In the scheme of things it really isn't an obstacle.
[b]Then: Sunlight Silver NB8B
Now: Chaste White NA8
