Re: A NB8B Turbo progress.
I was with Ian in the same car just days, maybe a week or so earlier and can confirm it's a great car. I wish the new owner much happiness with the car (the same happiness it brought Ian). Just a note, be very careful when running on low fuel as the sediment can often settle and collect at once causing a partial blockage at the fuel filter. If you experience any hesitation issues in future, I would suggest changing the fuel filter as a first step.
kind regards

It sits and handles differently and better, power wise its less. All out power is down, but I'm back enjoying the chase between corners, where my turbo nb was more about the acceleration and speed this thing is more about the feel and handling, don't get me wrong its still quick but you have to work it more.

Re: A NB8B Turbo progress.
that's a bit of a surprise. in the video it looks quicker than the mx5 did in the one I commented on. I've read dozens of reports and all say those cars elises/exiges will out handle almost anything on the road. not sure if that includes hi-ace vans though -there pretty good and it doesn't look rough to ride in either and appears pretty smooth.
plus I like how you give it to it through those bends looks like your out there to straighten up corners

isnt that interesting.
That's what the original Mx5 is about with low power. At the end of the day its about the nutter behind the wheel. I could keep up with SP's around maountain roadas with a mere 70 rwkw. I certainly had to work at it but its fun. Although it must be said. Overtaking maneuvers in my case had to be planned. SP's just took off and got on with business of overtaking
To me personally its about the noise & the interaction. Of course I agree a bit of extra power goes a long way but to me in most cases It would be overkill. Id probably be scared driving your previous Mx5. would have probably handed it back in less than 5 minutes. Its something to get used to that's for sure. On the other hand its nice to have that power. Its a different skill set to be able to handle a powerfull car like your old Mx5
Great to see you're enjoying this car for its intended purpose.

Re: A NB8B Turbo progress.
It is interesting, driving the Lotus has taught me a few things about my mx5... (for my preferences):
Make the spring and damper rates harder. (8-10kg fronts and 6kg rear)
Tune the turbo to make peak torque high in the rpm to reward driving it harder ( hard to let go of the midrange though )
Ditch the power steering.
keeping it light is the goal.
The mx5 was easy even with buckets to get in and out.
Thanks for the inputs, just a note to all you mx5 owners dreaming of a Lotus... getting in and out is not something you want to do more than a few times a day... I am 176cm flexible and relatively young... god help a big fat stiff old bugger ( if thats you sorry... ).

Back onto your comparison, maybe that's why I'm enjoying my tune with the ChipTorque chip. It still has the personality of a turbo with that kick higher in the revs, while still needing "driving" lower in the revs. I loved my NA6 for the way I had to actually drive the car rather than let the car do the work. I've been getting use to a turbo but wasn't enjoying it until having the tune but now it's sorted better I'm having great fun finding it's (and my limited) abilities!
