A Mazdaspeed version......similar to Abarth, Boxter S.
Lots of good ideas above - upgrades as options that people want to select & pay for.

Re: If you were Mazda ?
in my NA8 i would of liked better factory seats and more power, mine being a series 2 NA8 with 16 bit ecu had a factory power quote of 99KW at engine to put it into perspective the DC2 integra type R was punching out 147kw which i know comparing a VTEC to any other small N/A motor isn't fair especially on the BP but 120-130kw with a little more compression, better intake and exhaust and slightly more cam would of been really nice but hey Aussies love an under dog and maybe thats why we like our BP's lol. also the factory should of done a coolant re-route from factory rather than being half arsed about it including the bandaid head gasket in the NB8B.
All this being said though what they did build started what was to be the best selling roadster of all time and suits 99% of the market so it's hard to argue with that.
im a big Rotary fan (owned a few
) and as much as a RE version would be nice the FC RX-7 convertible never had the sales of the MX so i can understand why Mazda didn't go that way.

Re: If you were Mazda ?
Mazda have to sell enough of the same basic spec to get the economies of scale they need to build them cheaply enough so people will buy them. That means some compromises will be made, such as soft suspension. This all goes round in a circle as more buyers will buy the car with the soft suspension than would with less comfortable suspension. Or should Mazda go with Ohlins and add $3k to the price, which then reduces demand, which in turn, further increases prices, when most buyers would have been happy with the folly polly suspension?
UK since return: Standard NC2 (horrid), C200K, ND2 BBR, NC2 BBR200 (loved it), NC BBR300 (better than BARMY), V-Special, turbo NB8B (my 84th car)

Yeah, that tends to get overlooked - MX5s are great in so many ways, but they're not the pinnacle, but neither is their price - far from it in fact.

Re: If you were Mazda ?
Every year version should have come out with a top of the range model. Like Subaru have a WRX but then you can get a WRX STI.
So the better version could have better brakes, suspension and power. Plus some cosmetic changes.
I am grateful to have the SP but it looks completely like a NB. I have made some subtle changes to it.
The SE is what every year should have got but call it aMazdaspeed.
NA Mazda speed
NB Mazda speed
NC Mazda Speed
ND Mazda speed

For the ND, a lift off hardtop like all the earlier models had. The RF doesn't look balanced to me. Something like this

Not like any Corolla I had and I had a 2003 Sportivo. The MX feels pokier (much pokier down low) and sounds way beefier than the 2ZZ-GE did. There is no way a comparison could be made between the base model Corolla motor 2ZR-FE
