If you were Mazda ?
If you were Mazda what would you have done differently to your model MX-5 ?

In Australia?
Red interior option.
Tan interior option on any car. Yellow, laser blue and merlot mica available properly.
More marina green cars.
Torsen option.
BBS wheels available as an option.
Get rid of the 3.63 diff ratio.
Just more options. I guess the lack options didn't hurt sales though, the nb8b came in a handful of colours but 80% of buyers chose sunlight silver.

Re: If you were Mazda ?
More options is a double edged sword. Sure, you get to choose some good bits, but down the road working out which car has what is very confusing. People have enough trouble now working out if they have a Torsen or not!
I think in general, Mazda did a good job. We'd like more power, or lower, stiffer suspension, or a nicer exhaust from the factory, but that makes them less appealing to the masses, and more expensive, so less are sold. MX-5's are fantastic because you can take a stock car and through the extensive and time-tested aftermarket make your car how you want it. I love that my car is unique to me.
I do wish they were a little more adventurous with the colours though.

When you turn your car on, does it return the favour?

Re: If you were Mazda ?
From a realistic point of view I think it would have been far better with a little more interior options (colours, trims etc)
And a bit more power/torque.
Nothing crazy, just a little more.
I think the NB would have been better with a 2litre and maybe 90/100rwkw
They could have used the FS or FE3 engines to do that with minimal retooling and minimal weight difference.

Re: If you were Mazda ?
Rotary engine from factory.
Although I agree that if Mazda added more power and more focused suspension and more luxury etc you end up with the S2000 which good a car as it is cost twice and much and only lasted around a decade.
Mazda have kept it simple and kept it (relatively) cheap and in production for the foreseeable future.

Re: If you were Mazda ?
The ND 2l motor is wheezy, gutless and asthmatic. It sounds and feels like a base model Toyota Corolla motor. The rest of the car is great. Why not put a proper sports car exhaust on it, a fraction more cam overlap and a slightly better tune so that it actually matches and complements the car?
Oh yes, and some colours that are not shades of grey would be very nice too. At the moment we have whitish grey, reddish grey, silverish grey, greyish grey and charcoalish grey.

You forgot bluish grey. And yes, slightly stiffer springs and a muffler and tune that would add around 12-15Kw. And maybe a centre console recess and centre console storage bin that can at least comfortably store a 5" smartphone and wallet. Finally P40 offset wheels with 215/45/17 tyres, so the car doesn't look so under wheeled standard.
Eibach Springs, Racing Beat Sport/Race Muffler, Shorai/Arrows Battery Kit, Nielex Knuckle Supports, Advanti 17 x 7 S2's, Hankook 215/45/17 RS3's.

Re: If you were Mazda ?
SE with 135rwkw from the factory (easily achievable aftermarket with CAI + 10psi boost) would have tempted most new NB buyers to choose it instead of the N/A version (and tempted many other buyers).
