Trouble selecting reverse

Postby seanmx5 » Fri Nov 04, 2016 8:12 am

Hi all,
I've recently installed a lightened flywheel and HD clutch.
After a track session it's now very difficult to select reverse and 1 is sometimes notchy.
Can anyone suggest why this is happening?
I have normal clutch pedal feel.
Fluid looks OK
Has new tranny oil.
New turret oil and bits and pieces in there replaced
Bleed the master cylinder.
If I put in 1st gear and throw it firmly to reverse it'll go in.
Or from 3rd and throw to reverse as well.
Mmmm....
Much appreciated on a solution.
Last thing I want to do is replace the gearbox.
Had it in and out twice within a month :(

Could be clutch slave &/or master cylinder - check the throw (distance it travels) of the clutch slave cylinder rod as the clutch pedal is depressed. Clutch slave cylinders are basically a consumable & go around every 10 years. If throw is correct, then it could be the clutch pilot or thrust bearings. If not these bearings, then it could be the GB.

Also check free play at the clutch pedal. The official spec is 0.6-3.1mm at the push rod, which means the clutch should disengage near the top of the stroke. Minimising free play also helps for track use since it means you can get away with only half depressing the pedal.

I have changed both pilot and thrust bearings when I did the clutch.
I have a new slave cylinder and have just ordered a new master and a braided line to replace the curly one from Mx5 Mania today.
I'll do this and if it doesn't fix it I guess I'll be looking at a second GB.
Thanks mate
