Small update on the doorcard project.
I have started work on the speaker covers. I've riveted two sheets together so I only have to do this once and they both come out identical.
Lots of drilling and lots of filing. I'm starting to think it may have been faster to learn CAD and save for a waterjet cutter of my own.
Still tossing up weather I'll leave them with a raw brushed finish with black mesh backing or paint them black and put stainless mesh behind them.
I am hoping to get to the trimming supplier this week to get the foam for behind the vinyl; then I can start sewing the new covers up.

Nice work Luke. I'm feeling a gloss black paint with a silver mesh backing. But really, either way would look fantastic. Your DIY projects are awesome.

I'd like to have more shed time so I could actually finish these projects a little faster than the Glacial speed I seem to move at.
I have gotten a bit more sorted on this job though.
I think the black is going to get lost in the final design of the door trim so I've decided to polish them up.

Not as much of a concern as the amount of filings in my skin. Stuff is like little razor blades.
I need to work out wether I'll bolt or rivet them to the doorcards and
I'll have to rework my speaker mounts to drop the speakers back further into the doors as they sit proud of the doorcard at the moment. Also need the wife to disappear for a few hours so I can run the vinyl through the sewing machine without getting the third degree.

A bit of a photo dump.
Nothing has been completed, some things have progressed and some have been destroyed.
The Lotus seat is in. I'm giving it a couple of weeks to see if it needs any adjustment before it's off for powder coating. I will be tinkering with the accelerator pedal, it needs to move back to the firewall a couple of inches. I have a spare laying round so I'm going to try the "Miata big guy mod" and adapt it to a RHD pedal set. I will take photos.
But here's a bit of a comparison between NB8B seats, Sparco Sprint on a PCI mount and a series one Elise seat on my homebrew mount.
And the Co-Driver (well in a few years)
So initial impressions are good. It's damn comfy and holds me well.
Only drama so far is I've only gotten to drive it a handful of times as I tore the exhaust clean off the headers on a rough side road on Mt. Mee a fortnight ago. Monday it went into the shop to get the flange welded back onto the headers, a flex joint welded in to the tail of the headers and the poor repair of the mid pipe replaced with a much better routed piece that is now tucked right up close to the floor. If the exhaust hits now I'll have bigger problems than a broken weld.
I'll get photos of the new pipework when it's next on stands.
Macs Mufflers Strathpine I can't recommend highly enough. They were genuinely interested in getting things just the way I wanted them and the work is tidy and well priced for the materials and time they put into it. 11/10 would recommend.

That seat is certainly low. Could be hard to get in/out of (drop yourself in/drag yourself out)?

Hey Bruce,
I find it one hell of a lot easier than the Sparco and equal to and in some ways better than stock. I just sit on the sill and then slide my butt back into the car and turn to pull my legs in.
Then to get out is reverse, feet on the ground butt on the sill and stand up. With all the extra roof clearance it's a lot simpler in tight parking spaces.

I did a bit more on the doorcard project this week.
Spent some time working out the spacing for the vertical stitching. The plan is to add a line of piping between the top pleated section and a smooth panel along the bottom of the door. I can then tie it back to the seat by re trimming the center padding in the basket weave.
I've now cut and marked out the basket weave and backing foam
I'm just grabbing little bits of time here and there at the moment. Like everyone else, the year only gets busier from here.
I'm also waiting for some RevLimiter faces in the mail from smy0003. I've lusted after Warbird gauges for a long time. It will be nice to finally have a set. I would of loved to be able to afford the KG surround to go with them but one step at a time...

No secrets here. Phils Rotaries now trades as The New Old Car Company they have a lot of their stuff up on eBay but are located just down the road from me at Brendale so I went in and rummaged through the rolls.
They sell a lot of old Ford, Holden and Import Vinyl for trimming by the meter. The one I'm using I picked on looks alone but I believe it was the XY-XW Falcon one not the HG Monaro one.
