Picked up a 1.8 rear end

Nothing to get excited about (open diff) but it is from an nb8b so its stronger than my na6 setup

Also turns out one of the rear caliper brackets I bought was stuffed, oh well, least the front are in good condition will put them on at some stage... should i be worried about brake bias just upgrading the fronts?

Also have been doing a lot of reading about painting and turboing the car.

Plans are the paint it to some standard over the summer break then get it running on a megasquirt completely stock then add bits from there.

*also* Car idles high as sh*t (1000rpm cold then 1300 when warm) havent had a good look but there is no obvious vacuum leaks, hose clamp near the pod is a bit stripped but that's about it.

Tried the base idle reset but the screw is already all of the way in so it made no difference.

Thinking IAC or ISCV correct me if i'm wrong but these are two separate units... not sure how to diagnose from here

CMT is the Curtin Motorsport Team, I'm not a part of it (no time left to give!) but Tom designed and built the electrical system for last years car, not sure what's happening this year though.
I'm jelly bout the boost plans, was keen on finding an NA and doing the same, but got my green one for a good deal. Also the cost of doing it the legit (read: legal) way is currently out of reach.
Looking forward to living vicariously through your build.

$95 if you sign up before the end of the year, $60 if you sign up in the new year (but by the end of March). Either option takes you up until 30 June.

Bought an ECU off here from a member
Adaptronic 440d. Should be more than enough for what I need.


Have a bunch of parts piling up waiting to go on but have a few somewhat crucial exams to do in the next few weeks, so i am not in a rush to install.

More worryingly my front right has some awkward toe out after a higher speed encounter with some awful road.
Looks like a slightly bent tie rod to me but would like to see a specialist that knows a bit about alignments as when I accelerate it pulls one way, and on deceleration it pulls the other very weird to drive...

So going from maybe a month ago


Plugged in my adaptronic into my computer, loaded a base map that I was provided.
Being not that great at electrical work I wasn't sure how an ECU install would go. But it was incredibly easy to do everything!

Have the car up and running on the base map, did a few tweaks myself have a bit of a hunting idle when cold and on hot restarts but other than that it seems to run pretty well.

Going to put my lc-1 in and try tune a bit more with that later. Just using the adaptive tuning function to get fuel maps looking a bit smoother (looks like the Himalayas mountains now)

And going back about a week ago turning into my street I hear the loudest metal on metal clunk
Tried to look for broken sway bar link or bent tie rods.. couldnt find anything. That's when i noticed my wheels didnt chirp going around corners (welded diff) and it pulled incredibly hard on acceleration and deceleration.

So it was time to put in the open diff I had laying around for this situation.
Getting one of the axles out of the hub was a real PITA and it took me a fair few hours lining everything up.

Pulled out that welded POS and now have a 3.9 (afaik) open diff out of an nb8b.

Car drives incredibly better now, its so smooth compared to the welded diff which I think must of had a shot bearing as it had a metal on metal grinding when driving. Getting a bit of shaking at highway speed but will look into that later.

Have new shift boot rubbers and a rocker cover and cas o-ring, this should be the last of my maintenance before stacking turbo parts and finding a clutch that can handle a few more hp than a stock na6.

Good to see the progress.
I'd be getting that steering issue looked at sooner rather than later.
Re the clutch, I went with a extra heavy duty xtreme clutch. It handled my supercharged 115kw atw. Hoping it handles my turbo once my engine is built.

Funnily enough the steering issue was caused solely by the diff, only one wheel was being powered so it pulled heavily to one side. All fixed now with the new diff in

Did a little bit of tidying up today
Started off with a new pod filter

Just a cheap spectre one, got it for $14 on sale. Had to cut out some slots to fit around the poorly designed maf adaptor.

Got around to replacing my tattered shift boots that I ordered from amayama

As always been pretty lazy.

whipped this out today that I purchased used along with my ecu a while ago. Not sure why I left it so long was a pretty easy install, even more so being used so the led and button for calibration were already attached, only had to find 12v switched power and ground it.

The wire/connector from the 02 sensor wasn't quite long enough for the stock na6 02 bung position so ended up mounting the lc1 box ontop of the ppf, just ziptied in there, should be safe enough as theyre supposedly military grade weatherproof etc.

Ran the rest of the wires through the shift boot, don't really like it as theyre quire bulky, might end up drilling a hole and adding a grommet one day (probably not)

Car started up pretty shitty, probably because i used the radio 12v switched, read it may be high frequency? May change this to the 12v switched power supply coming from the ignition later when it annoys me enough.

Car idles around 13 off the cold start then works its way up to about 14.7 ish when warm. Found out that it goes really which on almost any throttle around 11-12 afr, probably why it drives shitty sometimes. just a basemap can't expect too much

TL;DR should be safe enough to drive around to my tuner when time is right

Next up will be afm delete and an inter fooler and/or injectors.
Trying to get a dump/manifold from NitroDann soon for my bunky s13 t25 with one stud broken in the turbo and seized circlip.
