I'm glad you are enjoying my old bolt on kit. 130kw is nothing to sneeze at for the small outlay and I quite enjoyed the linear power band and retaining the stock driveline minus the clutch.
I also liked the fact that I didn't have to change the extractors.

When tuboing a na6 the cost jumps up significantly when you need to replace the entire drive train, brakes and exhaust manifold.

Guess it all depends how serious you need it to be but that MP45 doubled the stock output on a budget.

I also drive a NA8 (supposedly 98kw). fun factor zilch compared to the rotrexed 1.6...

I remember TimK saying his supercharged NB was very thirsty as a daily driver. A turbo car, i'd assume you plod around off boost more, I know my car drinks like a pig when on boost.
If you had access to a car like this, would you take it back right away? Neither would I.

Love MCM but felt the missing elephant from the room was a roots blower alternative.

Part of the reason the rotrex looked weak next to the turbo setup was that it took so many revs to produce a meaningful boost pressure, so wouldn't it be interesting to also compare a roots blower with a small pulley that makes more boost at a low rpm?

I made this comment on the video and they replied that they would like to do the comparison at some point but it wasn't possible this time. I guess they weren't successful in reaching out to any of the manufacturers.

I have been looking for 10 years for Sprintex WA to do a kit for the mx-5. Sadly not everyone is geographically close to Nitrodann. So this is only available for the Honda Jazz. :roll:

That would be pretty cool. And it's twin screw so more efficient than a roots system?

It's a 67% increase as compared to 150% increase (Our kit).

150/60 =2.5

Our kit is 9500 drive in drive out.

9500/2.5=3800.

So unless it's 3800 or less installed and tuned, its poor value.

That's my opinion.

To be fair, it's 67% increase in power on a 1.5L Honda jazz. We don't know what that twin screw blower would make on a 1.8L mx5 with a big pulley to make a boost level more comparable to your turbo.

The FFS is claimed to make 300hp with a big pulley, injectors and e85.

The MCM turbo was clearly kneecapped in the comparison as many people point out, I just think it would be more interesting to see a supercharged application making say 12 or 14psi like the turbo can, then compare those.

The comparisons have been done, and done, and done again. If you want power, or even just power/$ then turbo is the answer.

If you're willing to compromise power for whatever else floats your boat, such as the ability to revert back to stock at your whim, then you can convince yourself to go super.

But don't kid yourself about the comparison, the MX-5/Miata has been around for 28 years, every possible FI combination and modification has been attempted. The turbo is the king.

There isnt an off the shelf option CAPABLE of comparable results.

Tom who owns FFS is a serial liar and will say anything at all to make a sale. He participated here around 3 years ago and he lasted like 2 days because he was called out on his lies. You already sawe them both at 10psi in the video, both at 12 or 14 psi wont do the blower any favours. The turbo on the MCM video was running lower boost than we run on our drive in drive out packages. Our base kit turbo is capable of over 25psi. We have cars making way way over 350 rear wheel horsepower with it.

The problem with blowers is that they arent particularly efficient. You need a big one with a big pulley to increase power significantly and that requires a lot of intercooling and also takes a lot of power from the crank to run it(meaning to get high RWHP figures you need even higher boost again, much higher than an equivalent turbo).

If you have access to a serious and exotic fuel, like methanol/C16/Nitromethane you can use a huge blower, fit a tiny pulley and the fuel will do the rest of the work for you. If you are using a street fuel then the fuel is regularly the limiting factor and the efficiency of a turbocharger plays 3x as nice with a turbo as it does a blower.

For a big family sedan with a v8 a blower is a great way to gain 25%, because the engine feels the exact same, but 25% stronger. But when you start with 100hp like in an mx5 you need 200% + to really get the car moving, and thats not possible with a blower on pump fuel without a lot of the things people feel are compromises on a turbo (long charge pipes and intercooler, standalone ecu etc).

By the time you have a good powerful blower setup built and supported you have compromised a lot of what people like about blowers and should have just had a whole extra 50-100rwhp and got a turbo.
