Re: Snowmotion's NB8a
Removed the front bar and broken air guide.
Stripped that GV lip and other accessories and will deliver the bar for painting tomorrow.
Fitted the new Air Guide.
Looking forward to the end of the week and have a renewed, unmolested nose.

Re: Snowmotion's NB8a
Painting has taken longer than the 1 week hoped so took the opportunity to strip a few extra items and give the car some more TLC and clean and restore the hidden trims. Some time I wish I didn't look as I then found some extra work to do in the rubber headlight protectors perishing and coming unstuck.
Hopefully all back together next weekend.

Front bar all finished except for the Mazda badge. Also painted the wiper arms whilst the car was off the road.

Picked up a set of clear reflectors and repeaters and fitted them this weekend. Looks much cleaner now...

Looking good mate. Love that front bumper/lip.
Plus those side indicators and reflectors are a must haha, such a cleaner look, well done.

Re: Snowmotion's NB8a
Had a great day at Eastern Creek on the Amaroo circuit at the the RTDC Super Sprint.
A day of mixed weather with the day starting our very wet and a super slippery track.
I have added a 6 point harness to the car and also a Hans device so felt a little different in the car. After the initial shock of the change I found it really comfortable and gave me better feedback about the car.
This was my first time at Eastern Creek so was really happy with a 1:16.4 for the first session.
When my second session came around the track had dried and i set a better time of 1:10.4.
The third session was dry and followed some faster cars to learn some better lines and recorded a 1:09.7
The forth session was dry to start and pushed hard to record a 1:08.86.
I called it at this point as I was so pleased with the time I set for the first time at this track.
This is a really fun track and the 30 minute drive in the morning was far better than the 3 hours to Wakefield for me.

Re: Snowmotion's NB8a
Despite the MX5 being predominately a track car and weekend cruiser I still wanted to be able to listen to some reasonable music.
Muzzy69's posts about the best value speakers motivated me to take some action so purchased a pair of Focal 165AC speakers.
The Focal 165AC speakers are a little different in dimension being round and so will require some new spacers to be made. After checking dimensions on the factory spacers I was able to work out that I need the spacer to be about 3-4 mm thicker to fit the speaker. I wanted to get 20mm MDF but apparently that is not easy to buy so settled on 2 sheets of MDF in 12 & 9mm. I glued them together today ready to cut them out tomorrow.

Re: Snowmotion's NB8a
Had the day off work today so worked on the speaker install.
Cut the ply out from the template I made and test fitted. All was looking good till I tried to refit the door ski and found that the spacer needed much more contouring. So used a router to create a different profile on the speaker side that was not much larger than the 14omm diameter of the speaker. This time the door skin fitted perfectly.
I used some Jaycar sound dampening on the outer door skin and on the inner door. Not nearly as much as Mauzzy69 would recommend but more than enough to keep me happy. All up I happy with the improved sound. I am yet to go for a drive but it could not be worse.

Nice work. What sort of improvement would u rate it out of 10 over the factory speakers?
Ps: what mobile phone holder do you have? Looks neat!

Out of 10, I would rate the improvement 8.
That meaning that the sound is clearer to hear at a lower volume when getting around with the top down. I have not had the chance to hear the difference at highway speeds but from what I can tell so far it is a good improvement over the stock speakers (18 year old) and that would not be too hard.
It is not the same level of detail that Muzzy69 and Bear would like but it is more than enough for my taste.
It was worth the effort.
The phone holder is from Clic On (or HoldmyPhone in Australia). They are a neat solution with no holes drilled in the dash.
