Help regarding brake service for an se.
The brakes on my se are due to be a serviced. One of the rear pads are sticking and the fronts are getting pretty worn, other than the sticking pad the car drives fine ie no shudders or squelling. The brake disks have been on the car for God knows how long and are starting to get pretty lipped, I know these days your better off getting new disks how ever I'm struggling to find any thing thats not going to cost me an arm and a leg. Can any one suggest and sites or places to go? Theres a couple of places I've found but they dont list specs for the se so I'm a little unsure.
I know theres plenty of threads on pads but I keep getting mixed opinions on them. I dont really want to go for a set of hawks as I think its a little over kill as the car wont be seeing any track time for a fair while. I've been happy with what I assume are bendix pads but from what I hear theres other options that are supposed to be a bit better..
Thats it for now, I'm slowly chipping away at the list of things that need doing before I go down the ecu and tune stage. Any suggestions would be much obliged, Corey.

Just get the discs machined they will do all 4 for about $120
Buy the standard original brakes from mx5parts.Co.uk (the blue ones that come with the springs) they give no dust and will last 30,000 and won't eat your pads, don't get Bendix they are crap.
They will only take a week from England, change them all yourself and buy some good grease for the slide pins and that's it. Easy. If I can do it anyone can.

If the rotors are too badly lipped for machining, contact brakesdirect for a quote on new discs.

MX5 Mania for rotors, just purchased a set!
Pads wise, yes can of worms Personally I would choose Winmax W1's or A1RM''s. Winmax are available from (amongst other places) Motorsport Brakes. I order my pads from there and they post them out.
The rear brakes cannot be forced out like the fronts rather wound out with the adjusting screw.

Not uncommon for the rear passenger side (RHD) to stick. Can be due any of the following sticking: adjuster on the caliper; caliper slider pins; or handbrake cable.

You do need to be careful with getting the correct size (276mm rear, 270mm front) as a lot of places will say that the smaller late NA/early NB rotors will fit the SE and they won't. I can confirm the ones linked above are the correct size.
The way they're advertised the fronts and rears look like the same brand but when I got mine I got one set of Protex and one set of RDA branded rotors. Doesn't really matter but just FYI.

I'm definitely going with the disks you linked, simply because i wont have to leave the car up on jack stands while I wait for them to be skimmed.
For pads ive been looking at the winmax w3's, are there any carbotech distributers in aus?
I'm deffinetly cleaning up and regreasing the sliders, I've already had to do mine and the mrs's daily driver, doesnt take much for them to bind up. Should I be looking at doing any seals or any thing while im at it?

Good choice I ran these pads for a while, not very dusty and will take light track duties, very similar to the A1RM's. I have run the A1RM's as well as EBC Greens, however stick with Winmax now.
If you contact Marty Beckton from Motorsport Brakes http://www.motorsportbrakes.com.au/contact-us/ and the pads are in stock he will get them in the mail. Actually last year at WTAC Marty dropped a set of pads into me, well he was attending WTAC anyway and I saved on postage
The only pads that come with new backing plate, springs/clips are OEM ones so make sure you keep the ones you have if going aftermarket.
I never kept too much data on the W3's, however a set of rotors will last about 6 sets of W5's and 4 sets of W6.5's so expect the W3's to last quite a while.
If doing all the work yourself think about changing the brake fluid as well as greasing the slider pins also consider braided lines. However, no matter what pads/rotors you get make sure you bed the brakes in as per the recommended procedure.

Bear in mind the adjuster on the caliper can seize, or the handbrake cable can stick, also causing sticking rear pads.

Disks have been ordered. Pads will be the end of the week along with some bits from 949 racing, looking at going to braided lines and grabbing some wheel nuts and valves.
Been looking at brake fluid, can any one suggest one in particular r are they all pretty much the same?
My next dilemma are wheels and tires, for some time my plan was a 15x9 wheel with ad08 tires but after looking the other night on yokohama's site it doesnt look like they do one in that width.
Once I've got the typical se issues sorted the plan is to do some track events with the local mx5 club so i thought a 9" wheel would be better? Or should I just go to 15x8? Seems like theres alot more options in that size.
Are there any other tyres out there that fall into the same category as the ad08's? I was also looking at bridge stone potenza's but i dont really want to be spending that sort of money on tires just yet.

This might be too late to be useful - When I got my disks machined, I took them off and dropped them at the brake place while I went to get some other things. They were done in an hour - took them home and refitted.

if you are planning on running AD08s or similar (ie S specs) then just stick with the 15x8s. Much easier to find rims and tyres.
You'll only really get the full benefits of the 9s if you are running proper R specs or better..

9s are faster with an equivalent tyre, however you don't have a lot of choice with a 15 wider than 205. 8s give you a bit more flexibility at the cost of outright pace.
Nitto NT01s, Hankook RS3s... not a lot of 225/45s. A050s also come in 225/50 but that is quite a tall tyre (and pricey... but fast!)
For brake fluid, Motul RBF600 gets a good rap. Cheapest I have found it is again on ebay.
