Trying to buy parts from the US

Sorry if this has already been answered somewhere else.

I'm interested in buying the Singular Motorsports bonnet louvers, but neither their website or flying miata ship to Aus.

Is there a way to get them in cheaply through other shipping services?
Problem I have is once they're landed in AUS you've already paid more in shipping than you have for the actual item itself!

Are there any decent alternative louvers for sale anywhere is AUS?

I just went though this too with miata roadster site in the USA a few weeks ago.
It was like $65 US to post a &90 head gasket.unfotunately they are the only one that had this for the NA6
You just have to be patient. US postal is real Exy.
I ended up getting a few extra parts to make it hurt less.

I've learned to avoid the USA unless Amazon has it or you just can't get it anywhere else.Amazon is less likely to have specific parts but it's amazing what they do have. In some cases Amazon will not ship to AU.

In a lot of cases if you can find the product locally it's more expensive than landing it from OS.

That's if you get a response. I sent several messages through their contact page and direct emails a couple months ago for quotes on shipping a downpipe and another for the DP plus exhaust and not one response. Gave up.

I've usually had timely responses from FM.

A warning on S&H the exhaust though:
I managed to get in on a Group Buy for the FM MSM 2.5" exhaust (no FM downpipe, PO installed that already) and the S&H was almost as expensive as the Group Buy price.

Ah yeah I'd forgotten the SMB one. But I'd also already decided to wait a bit longer as well. I'll give the FM one a miss and sort a full dp/exhaust with Dann when I'm ready.

These things often come down to want contacts you have. If you have a local friend then they buy it and then arrange freight and I bet it costs less. If a Shipper will not supply then you have to find a seller who will. You can send product by surface freight as well, takes a time but will be cheaper. The rule always for anything bought overseas is what is the landed price. Another thing to understand is that International freight is ultimately worked out on a volumetric basis and the analogy is simple, a tonne of steel is going to cost a lot less than a tonne of feathers to ship. One thing that sometimes works insofar as responses are concerned is making a phone call- check the times - almost surely they are surprised to get a call from Aust.

Aust. Post have a forwarding house in the States , their postage prices were lower than Shipito . I can't remember the details but they did have a page where you could calculate the price if you know the weight .

They seem to make custom sizes too, so I might just go down the DIY route.

I have used www.Bonvu.com recently to import a tow bar for my WRX. They worked out very well and I can certainly recommend them. They also use PayPal so extra security there as well.

Having some dramas getting my msPnP2 from the states.

I'll have a rant once it's all finished.

Unless it is totally neccecary. I'll be avoiding purchasing from the USA in future.
Why is Amazon so straight forward. But the little guys are soooo painfull?

Perhaps Amazon is so big . The little guys just don't get the protection Amazon does?

Other than our goddamn awful customs, I've had no issues importing from the US. Shocks, ECU, and other bits and pieces.

Only twice have I exceeded the $1000 threshold, and run into the bureaucratic nightmare that is Australian Customs. I now expect the delay this causes, avoid it wherever possible, and I have a preferred customs broker I use to expedite the process. Still, the wait and the extra cost does give me a case of the proverbials.

I would rather pay the extra shipping costs of breaking a purchase into multiple shipments where possible, ie: wheels. Than go through Customs. Unfortunately, you can't do that with an ECU.
