205/50 on 15x8 - Dealers refuse to fit this?
Hi all
Changing my plans from 16s to 15x8s after advice on here. Getting ready to order rims + tyres but the two dealers I spoke to won't fit 205/50 on 15x8, saying 7.5 is the max legal. However, it seems very common on here. How do you guys get around this?
Thanks

Go to a tyre shop instead.

5.5-7.5 for a 205/50/15 recommended https://www.yokohamatire.com/tires-101/basic-information/customizing/rim-wheel-width

Spoke to 2 Bob Janes & a Tyrepower. All 3 refuse to fit them to the car, due to regs as posted by Magpie. The Tyrepower will fit the tyres to the rims but not to the car, and will charge $120 to do so, whereas if I buy the tyres from a tyre shop it can be included in the price.
The 15x8's are proving to be more difficult than I expected. Tyre choice for 205/50 seems restricted in Oz vs US. Starting to wonder if it's worth it or whether I should just go the less exciting 15x7 195/50 option.

Try a tyre place that isn't a chain. Chains will have corporate policies on maximum widths etc. Find a local tyre place, motorsport tyre specialist if possible, and I'm sure you'll get them fitted.

I've talked to 3 motorsport tyre specialist recently for buying semi-slicks, & they all said 7.5" maximum rim width for 205 tyre. They talked me into 225 for 8", but I didn't ask if they would actually put 205's on 8"s.

I remember reading a few years ago that TireRack in the US was refusing to ship 205x50x15s fitted to 15x8 rims due to similar regulations.
A pity because my Dunlop Direzza 205x50x15s look perfect on the 15x8 6ULs.

Take them in as loose wheels and say they're for your track car.
OR
15x7 isn't a bad option (considering you haven't bought wheels yet?), they will be legal, lighter and unless you're a track monster there won't be any noticeable performance benefit from the 15x8s.

Yeah, just take them in without telling them. The tyre fitter may not even look (or care).

Re: 205/50 on 15x8 - Dealers refuse to fit this?
Never been refused a fitment at a tyre shop.
205s on an 8 were no issue at a chain when I had them fitted.
Also had bald tyres fitted to rims, mismatched sizes on pairs, etc.
If you can jsut take them in off the car, and if they ask say they're skid rims.
Best option is any no name tyre shop, will be cheaper too if you offer cash.

My local bob jane has fitted 205s to 8inch rims twice for me no problems.

I'm told by very experienced motorsport people, that the extra stretch of 205/50 on 8" rims will reduce grip compared to them on 7". Likewise compared to 225 on 8".
