Footwell cameras - what are you using, where from, how much?

Postby pepejesus » Fri Oct 21, 2016 5:07 pm

Thinking about trying to capture some sweet footwell action after seeing a few of the in-car vids from forum members (eg Magpie, trackphotos).

So what are you running, where did you get it, how much did it cost, and how are you mounting it?

I bought an SJCAM 4000 from gearbest.com. It looks like they only stock the newer 5000 model now. Back when I got mine it was about $120 delivered including two spare batteries. I've heard a lot of good things about the Git2 action camera from Foxoffer.com, supposedly it's on par for quality with slightly older gopro models, but much cheaper.

Mine is done by 2 hard wired cameras (Vbox Lite). You set the overlay and it records no post processing. However, it is possible to use another program like DashWare to add additional info if you want to. The Vbox software allows you to compare laps from other people who use the same software, handy for comparing lines/apex speeds.

Also has an OLED display that amongst other things gives predictive times! The predictive time is very handy in seeing how you are going round the track.

It is available from http://www.vboxaustralia.com.au/vbox-motorsport.html

I moved the foot camera to over the shoulder so I could watch the steering wheel.

For more complex video editing I use Adobe premier.

Interesting. Looks like you can get the SJCAM 4000 WiFi for less than $100 now http://www.gearbest.com/action-cameras/pp_230849.html?wid=21

How did you mount yours, trackphotos?

Magpie, that Vbox set up looks amazing, but a bit out of my price range.

Since my car has no carpet, I stuck a flat gopro mount straight to the floor. No idea how you might go about mounting it with the carpet in place.
