Ohh an Exige!! 8)

Hope the sale goes smoothly. Will be sad to see the car go but the Lotus will be fun!
I thought for sure you'd go a Porsche of some descript after chasing one around SMSP :)

great minds think alike :lol: I have canned the idea of the nd mx5 and believe it or not have a lotus planted firmly in my mind..............all I need is the cash :lol: but i'd say my chances of buying one out of 10 is 10 so I am serious.

I am sitting on nd money now and within weeks I am going to hit those feathered friends :lol: on another note I had no luck selling mine or I could just be in it now but :roll: not a friggin serious offer hit the target :lol: but now I wouldn't sell on the target figure :lol:

but I always said I didn't need the sale. although yesterday I did tell a young bird buyer to get stuffed and hung up and that sale was worth 5000 :lol: he rang back and the wife told him he has to be careful talking to the older generation...... :roll: not sure if she meant me or her? :lol:

at the moment an elise will do

They are different things, the journey can be fun but often its super frustrating and very challenging, but in the end it has been satisfying, the end product is good but I have many more things I wanted to do to the car but it over capitalise on its value, and yes I do beleive its not about resale value, however, the sell out and get an exige came and stole the show. If I didnt drive it and couldnt fund it, id keep building the mx5 towards the design of the lotus, thats is light powerful and driver feedback. Whatever it cost would be worth it... so the moral of the story is DO NOT DRIVE THE LOTUS! :roll:

I had a Lotus Elise for a bit over 6 months, have been in an Exige and have been dríven around a track in an Exige by the winning ATCC driver of that year.

They are great cars but I define them as "perfect weather" cars. I opted not to keep the Elise as it was just too difficult day to day, whilst the MX5 was just much easier.

That said Ian, you have easy access to great roads - I had to fight traffic and drive a distance before I got to nice driving roads.

lets talk elise. what can you tell me about one. ride wise compared to a standard SE with 17" rims - how's the ride compare. I read it has no power steering. how heavy is the steering. any other info you care to comment on

always good to hear from some-one who has owned one. I might as well find out first hand. I might be better off going cheaper the model just to look at rather than bigger $$$ model and its still rough to ride in :lol:

so any info would be appreciated

It was an S1 Elise, no p/s but it is so well weighted it's actually light (because no weight in front)...and it is so precise, really like a kart.

NVH is bad - there is zero insulation you hear every little pebble that flicks up.

It's a great car, just like everyone says. However, park it in the rain and stuff will start to go wrong as the engine is exposed to the elements. Try and get out of the car in the rain and well...imagine getting out of a car where the opening is higher than your hip line and the top is just above your ear.

It would be brilliant driving Cooma to the Snowy Mountains as the roads are smooth...but blasting up parts of the Putty Road...not going to be fun. The car doesn't like bumpy roads. It was never built for that.

You will have those moments where the Elise will be the most fantastic machine, but that will probably be 15-20% of the time. The MX5 will be more fun, more convenient, more comfortable most of the time.

    thanks for the speedy reply. I guess the only way to really make the decision on one of these cars is to go out and find myself one and have a drive.............did I mention I have had a lower back problem again for the past month :lol:

    anyway that wont totally stop me. I will asap go take a look and drive one and if it fits the criteria - looks the part :lol: - I'd say I will find it a parking spot in my garage. after-all the Z3 sat there for two years and did nothing :roll:

    besides I have to unload all those $$$ before the wife unloads it for me :lol: :lol: :lol:

    now here's an interesting story. a potential bird buyer told me he knew some-one who had a bmw 135i twin turbo which blew both turbo's but lucky the car was still under warranty. bmw replaced the complete motor and turbo's and the bill was $39k :roll:

    a lotus might cost a bit to fix if something goes wrong .....but that's only if I drive it :lol:

    you haven't allowed yourself to spin the wheels on your weapon :mrgreen:

    I doubt you'll break anything ....any time soon even on an Lotus.

    It might break on its own though. :lol:

    Use to spin the wheels on my sister's Morris Minor with only 800cc (from memory)!! Use to take about a minute to rattle it's way to 100kph. Those skinny tyres were epic...the hole in the driver's side floor wasn't ...

    well I am only thinking of an elise. well a bit more than that. I got the wife to text the seller today because.......I cant text :lol: to go further on this wild idea.

    so its quite possible I will drop into one and probably crawl out of one :lol: and wish i'd never bought one too :roll: but at this stage.... I just gotta know :lol: will it spin the wheels :lol:

    Lotus Vs Mx5?

    At the Noosa Hillclimb in August this year, a streetable MX5 with well under 300hp placed ahead of all the Elise's and an Exige...

    I can't see one of them being quicker than what you already have out of the box....

    ....but I'd like to play with one of them too (if I could afford one!)

    Hey mate, well...
    MCA Xr Coilovers (2k)
    Corn makes Leather seats (2k)
    Borg warner efr turbo with custom manifold
    retune for 400whp goal (5k) with other required supporting mods like ls coils and possibly a trick harmonic balancer...

    ..another 10k right there.

    Gets expensive when to make it better it takes very specific parts that almost always can only be found new and retail.
