I guess I dis what I could to cover myself but not enough to cover me for the knock knock jokes the bearings made at the end of the track day at Winton.
Prior to that It was my first drive in the Mx5 and did she impress! I absolutely loved it.
So back on the trailer and home I went....

So out popped the motor and purchased a donor bp5a.
Research say a my bp4w head with the bp5a block was a good choice. So that's the path I took.
Being all new to the tools and mazdas hours went into rsearch, diy''s, you tube and question time ...
My head went in for a refresh and checks. Came up beautiful thanks to Hoppers Express Heads. Highly recommended!
The block was torn apart inspected for any irregular wear and tear. It came up very good and torqued back maticulously back with proper lubes in the bearing for start up.
All new belts. Gates racing timino belt. Water pump. Tensioner. Seals vrs kit. Gaskets. Bolts. Full engine refresh literally.
Aircon delete. Airbag delete. Wrinkle paint cover.
Gearbox: cleaned. Xtr lightened flywheel. Exedy HD.

What a learning experience it has been!
Having only changed brakes being the most mechanical experience I had to tearing the whole motor down and piecing it back. Very rewarding.

I haven't dismantled that the block on that motor yet.
I'm guessing a oil pump fail maybe.
That motor will be stage 2 projects when I learn how to drive before I go Forced Induction.
Vrs kit was $140 clearance at Repco mate.

One of the hex head bolts that attach a small black steel right angled bracket to the underside front of the intake manifold - just under the rear of the throttle body.

Started up on second attempt.
Stuttered then purred.
Thanks to everyone that helped me through my very first engine build. Massive learnine experience that took me 2 a and a half months of Friday nights and half days on Saturdays. On route for Winton again on Melbourne Cup day... Who's in?
