+ 1 for carsales. Make sure you you upload some good quality photos, and do take the time to write up a decent description - condition of the car, history of ownership, any modifications and reason for selling. And if your car has it, make sure you make it clear that it has a full service history.

Re: Selling a car
Carsales is fine.
Gumtree is ok, but you tend to get flooded with pointless calls and ridiculous offers (advertise a car for $5000 and you can guarantee someone will harrass you to sell it to them for $500 and they'll also give you a blown up dirt bike)
There's also a moderate element of dodgy people, it's a good idea to have inspections away from the house. At a local park or shopping centre for example (basically so they dog come back later and steal the thing)
Carsales isn't immune to that, but it seems to be heaps better than gumtree.
Avoid those "cash for cars" places you hear advertised on the radio, they usually rely on low prices and I've heard plenty of accounts of their cheques taking forever to clear (or not at all)

Re: Selling a car
Depends on the car. All original clean examples do well on carsales, but gumtree seems to be the go to place for people selling cheaper 5's (for whatever reason).
I used both and this forum when I sold my first 5, most people saw it on carsales.

A lot depends on what its worth. If its $5000, Gumtree is pretty good. By adding ' no lowballers, scammers or swaps of ANY description ' helps. I usually use forum, Gumtree and Bike/Carsales. All have worked for me. Enthusiast websites are great BUT limited exposure, and preaching to the converted!
Oh, and price it aggressively!

Assuming you're selling an MX5 SE, put it on Carsales & on this forum with a link to the Carsales ad.
Re pics, front, rear, both sides, engine bay, cabin interior, boot as a minimum. Bit of history, ie number of owners, full service history or not, kms, mods if any etc. Re price, over a period of time look at what other sellers are asking for their MX5 SE in a similar condition with similar kms.

Re: Selling a car
All good points by the previous posters. Personally I reckon you take some care with the summation of the car and don't go down the road of pointing out its short comings. I don't see the point of explaining why a car is being sold ( if they ask you tell them) nor silly statements about how much you love it. Blathering on about extras can backfire because people may think it's raced on Sunday or does donuts in the street.
You offer a car and people use their own eyes and do their own checks. If they ask questions you respond honestly.
You often don't know the credentials of buyers and weigh up whether they test drive by themselves or whether you hold their licence or the their keys etc. If you take an offer then its smart to take a deposit pending final payment etc. I reckon you write out a receipt with details of final price and maybe method of payment. Some people just hand over their licence anyway- its not foolproof esp if you are selling a Porsche or a Ferrari maybe.
I agree Car Sales is pretty good but also if you are in a Club that can work as well. This forum can work if you have something which is not overpriced. We are forbidden to tell anyone they are dreaming, but nevertheless some are ,so the right price is a good idea.

It's worth noting that the rule only relates to publicly telling someone they are priced a bit high.
(Ie potentially sabotaging a sale)
You are allowed to send them a private message, which I have done in the past for parts that people have had at very high cost, and have had them advertised for a long time (granted, I've only done so if they have expressed confusion as to why an item hasn't sold yet)

Re: Selling a car
Feel free to ask for opinions with responses via a post in this thread or PM, but you'll need to tell us a bit about the SE - it mainly comes down to kms & condition as few buyers will pay for mods, hence why a number of forumites revert their MX5s to stock or close to stock & sell parts separately. But if your SE is stock or close to it's relatively easy to price.

Re: Selling a car
Realistically, if the car is pretty good, I think 13-14k . Mine was about that with MX5 Mania Stage1 kit and almost out of rego, less than 100 k kms. Good luck with sale, what's the next car?

Re: Selling a car
Some people get lucky ... Recently I was driving past a small car park for a row of businesses that people use every Sunday to park their cars that are for sale. Usually about 15/20 odd cars there. Anyway, noticed a silver SE amongst them so pulled over and checked it out. Reasonable condition, couple small scratches on driver's side fender, lots of stone chips front bar, small patch clear coat or something fading passenger rear guard. Looking through the windows, small tear on driver's bolster and a deep scratch on the console cubby lid and the carpets looked more worn than I'd have expected. The sheet in the window listed it as 83k odo, stock, new tyres and brakes, recent service, 4 years of service/repair records (I wondered about word repair!) nothing about books etc prior to that, PPSR available, $17,750 asking price. I typed the rego into my Ezyreg phone app and came up as about 5 weeks reg (probably on a direct debit monthly payment like all mine are). Anyway, took down the number just for a laugh. Called a few days later and owner said it was sold! Spoke to him about it for a while and apparently that was only the second weekend parked there and he hadn't got around to advertising elsewhere. Two idiot enquiries after the first weekend, one enquiry the second weekend and that person was waiting for him to come down with the keys to get a closer look. He drove down, the potential buyer an older bloke took it for a spin, came back and eventually offered him $15,500 for it. They haggled and talked and another drive and he sold it for $16,900!!! Owner paid later that day, and came back two days later and drove it away!! Damn!! Never been that easy for me!!
