Turbo NA6 dyno results

Postby NicTheMx5 » Fri Oct 14, 2016 4:39 pm

Headed up to T.A.S Performance in Toowoomba a couple weeks ago for a tune up since some new modifications.
Did some modest pulls at 16psi giving 220hp on 98.
Turbo is capable of more boost, but ran out of time in the day to keep mucking around with the boost and we wanted to start the tuning on E85.
Unfortunately the flex sensor decided not to cooperate and didn't have enough time to figure out why, so had to call it a day.

I will be sorting out the E85 side of things on my own I think, now that I at least have the tables all finished on 98.
Realised my ecu doesn't actually do true flex fueling, but only table compensation based on ethanol%.
Table switching seems to be the best way to go, but even if I do mix the two fuels, the flex compensation mode at least makes it drivable.

Engine is as follows:

1.6 shortnose, with forged pistons/rods/pins/head bolts
TD05 16g Trust turbo, manifold and external wastegate (big JDM greddy kit)
2.5" exhaust
Megasquirt pnp2
WRX 2 port boost solenoid
Five-O Motorsports 750cc injectors
Tomei fuel pressure regulator
Toyota COPs
Variable TPS
Flex sensor
Coolant reroute
42mm rad

That's all I can remember off the top of my head for now.

Does anyone have any first hand experience with tuning E85 with megasquirt in Brisbane? Not looking for a dyno, just something cheap like a backyard tuner. I know there's plenty of people with megasquirts in Brisbane, so there has to be someone out there!

Read the first line buddy. It's forged

430whp is the highest na6 road dríven I've seen. 220 would be a blast though!

Nice results, OP. I don't know how this flew under the radar back in October last year without any responses! And it's good to know there's a place somewhat local to Brisbane that does Megasquirt, how did you find the guys at TAS?

showgun, the stock 1.6 should be able to handle this power without forged internals if it's in good health and the tuner knows what he's doing.

430whp is a stupid amount of power in an MX-5, I would need new pants

I would be curious to know how well it drives on the flex mode.

I currently run 2 tunes. 1 for 98 the other for E85

I was also under the impression mS2 ran on table switching with Flex. But I think it just adds 13 deg at 100% Ethanol & adds % fuel from the 98 table. while this would be ok for traffic. I recon even if I had the Flex fuel sensor fitted. Id still run the dedicated map for E85 on the track.

MS3 is really the way to go even with NA6's.
