Hi all

Probably going to pick these up in a 205/50/r16 for my stock NB 16s.

I have a previous thread on whether 205/50's were okay vs 205/45s. SMY said: "205/50R16 will give you 0.8" increase in rolling diameter, effectively lengthening your final drive ratio. I'd stick to 205/45, I can't see any upside to 205/50 besides potential rubbing problems if lowered and being heavier."

Bigdog said he runs them and gets slight rub but has the advantage of clearing speed bumps more easily.

I'm thinking of just saying f*** it and getting them as I will mainly use them for DD and want a more comfortable tyre to complement the MCA XCs I have installed now. The tyres that came on the NB1 15s on the car now (195/50s) are Maxxis M35 Victra and Goodyear Assurance Fuel Max which both seem to be pretty miserably hard. I haven't played around with tyre pressures yet but either way I'm set on new tyres and swapping the 15s to my other car.

Any other thoughts on the LM704 or the 205/50 option before I pull the trigger? They are on 4 for 3 sale at Tyrepower for the next couple of weeks.

Advice much appreciated.

If your complaining about hard tyres & playing around with tyre pressure sounds to me like you are looking for something more.
You may find this tyre mediocre . It's a tyre for a passenger car to be comfortable. Perhaps even fuel efficient.

As far as big dogs opinion on theses that's fine. He's just not as mad or cranky as me.

This is going back a bit and I hope my memory is accurate
I ran the LM 702 about 15 years ago on Patchy. Yes slightly different compound. Not exactly the same. They were ok,ish. At the time they were an exlusive to Bob Jane and also Bob Jane had the 12 month interest free thingy.

Like I said don't expect to be blown away by these tyres. But they certainly will not be extremely bad either.

The 205/45R16 is the same price as the 205/50R16.
If you'r chasing comfort, stick with the 15's. I remember swapping from 16's to 15's and it making a world of difference in ride comfort. A 205/50R15 or 195/50R15 will give you the compliance that you want while also being guaranteed not to rub or throw your speedo out.

I've just gone from 16's to 15's (The 15's currently have worn out old Toyos) and I won't be going back to 16's.

1) Ride is improved,
2) the suspension due to the reduced weight has 'come alive'.
3) take off from stop is easier

Heading off for better tyres this weekend.
Never put the top up unless the storm has a name.

Curse you guys with your wisdom and logic. Might have to get some 15x8s. Anyone got some amazing lightweight 15x8s for like half of new price 8)

If I got 205/50/15 these would fit on the NB8A 15s, and I could swap them to a 15x8 wheel later, yes? Or would they be too stretched? I don't do stance.

205/50/15 on 15x8 seems common, including on race cars.
However, I'm looking to buy semi slicks at the moment, & all the motorsport tyre suppliers I've talked to don't recommend 205 on 8" rims ???
