I have exactly the same setup, but with about 10,000km more on it, but I haven't looked at a log or a dashboard in 5000kms or so...

Because it's such a simple device, there's not really much to do in the troubleshooting department;
When you first power up the ECU/Car do you get the AFR at 13ish for 5 seconds, and then AFR of 16ish for another 5 seconds? (in my experience by the time the laptop connects to the ecu and updates the dash the initial reading only lasts a second before it goes to the higher reading)

If you don't get that, it might be the controller. If you do get the swing, I'd say it's possibly the Sensor - did you wire up the tempreature LED as well? (I didn't) It will blink different speeds depending on the temp the WBo2 is reporting, if it's always heating or cooling that could also indicate ... an error, somewhere... I don't know. That was a bad train of thought....

See if someone with a Bosch WBo2 wants to trade for 10 minutes

Cus thanks for your thoughts, I've ordered a new Bosch LSU 4.9 sensor. I pulled the original sensor out today and it is stuffed. Pins 3 to 4 (heater) read meg ohms, should be around 3 to 4 ohms. It does not heat up either, a dead giveaway! So the heater has failed, from the documentation this is bad thing and will cause the sensor to fail pretty quickly. In free air AFR is 16.2, with sensor in brake cleaner soaked rag it should read full rich. The AFR reading does not vary with this test. To answer your question regarding the LED, yes it is hooked up and working, indicating sensor too cold.(fast flash rate)

This is quite a long story, I think with the benefit of hindsight that the sensor has been failing gradually for some time. I was earlier running with AFR safety sensing ON, this causing ECU to cut engine due to an alleged lean condition. So, I did some VE analysis and richened up VE table to fix apparent lean condition. In hindsight I think it was never lean at all, just the failing sensor leading me and the ECU astray. (Garbage In Garbage Out)

One thing that I have since noticed in the 14point7 spartan2 manual is that the 12 volts should not be applied to the controller until the engine is started. I have it powering up with ignition on, so it can incorrectly heat the sensor before the engine starts. Apparently condensation can damage a pre heated hot sensor when the engine starts.

Now I need to figure out the best way to only apply power to the controller only after the engine has started. No obvious outputs are jumping out at me screaming "use me" from the megasquirt manual, Maybe I'm thinking that using a voltage sensing circuit might be the go, something like once the voltage goes over 13.2 V, then pull a self-holding relay in to power up Wide -band controller.

What have other people done? I Gotta pull out the mx5 schematics to see if there is something obvious there, All I need is a signal to say "engine running" something like "sync" from the MS assigned to an output would be good to pull a relay in to power up WB controller. :?

You can control the 12V supply to the wideband with a relay that is activated by a spare output on your ecu and then set the output to only activate when rpm > 400 or something like that.

I'm using an amazing hack of laziness on the Diag Box in the engine bay, but basically it comes on when the ECU (ie; Ignition) is on - which is probably what most people do.

I unplug the WB fuse if I'm going to be farting around with the laptop without the car running (ie: pulling logs from the SD, because you can't pull logs while the car is running :|)

Yep, me too, just picked up 12 volts when ignition is on. I'm thinking that my have contributed to the demise of the sensor, maybe I just need to remember the always start the car right away or pull the controller fuse like you suggest.

As for pulling logs, what a pain that is. I bought one of these

I just take the SD card upstairs now, its easily removable.

Yeah, I'm thinking something like that too. Not sure what's possible though.

Nice schematic, now just have to find an internal signal that can be assigned to an output. Nothing comes to mind, ( might spend a bit more time searching for something). Maybe an added feature request for the next firmware release. 8)

You should have a bunch of options.

Just use an rpm output.

Thanks Dann, I'll have a longer look around in Tuner Studio.

An example:

something like this should work. Just check what output(s) you have spare first.

Thanks bart   This forum is priceless.

For the record I'll add that this setting is under "Advanced Engine" tab in Tuner Studio, I haven't poked around too much in there previously.

Hi there.

I'm about to pull the trigger on the MS2PnP. just need to get my head around a few things.
The plan is to run the MS with the AFM for the first few weeks so I can swap & change ECU's if & when required.
There is plenty of info on how to remove the AFM. like attaching the IAC, getting the fuel pump to work through the ECU rather than the AFM & so on.
But not really anything about settings to keep it in.

The assumption is that I attach the MAP. So The car runs off that. The flap will just move inside the AFM but the MS will ignore that Signal? Or is there a setting in MS I need to set that so it ignores the AFM signal?

It sounds like you dont intend to tune it.

Sorry if I am misinterpreting, but if im not stop right here. Make up your mind with the direction your car will go and pull the trigger, please dont try and run around on the basemap with your current level of knowledge.

The flapper wont do anything the second you plug in the MS, it runs off of map. You need the map hose connected at all times.

You answered my question thank you. I also appreciate your concern.

The plan is to remove the AFM
It will run with
Knock sensor,
LC2 Wideband & display
variable TPS
Flex fuel sensor & table switching. (next year more likely)

having read manuals, doing research & playing with Tuner Studio & having the steps in my mind The afm is really a safeguard if it goes pair shaped for me after a few hrs.
However in hindsight, Its going to take me all of 2 minutes to replace the AFM. While its going take me 30 minutes to replace the O2 sensor & variable TPS.Every time I decide to swap around if I need to go for a long or spirited drive. I don't intend to have both O2 sensors fitted in the exsaust although I may not have a choice if he bung doesn't fit

There is no intention of just loading a base-map & considering done & dusted.
It will go to pro before it gets dríven spirited
