No :(

It's going to be goodbye to the MX-5?

Sad days...

Yeah, into the garage long term until I've finished my degree and have time to supercharge and engineer it :(... unless someone makes me a decent offer in the next couple of weeks.

Just giving you a heads up I don't think you will pass emissions with that airbox on the s13. A friend of mine was failed because he was running an aluminium airbox, switched it to plastic and breezed through. That was for an EPA test, then he used it to get his engineers certificate.

Thanks mate but both my engineer and blue slip guy think an aluminium airbox will be fine. There's absolutely no reason why it wouldn't be allowed, I'd be interested to hear the reasons for rejecting an aluminium airbox. I'm sure I could find some stock cars which had aluminium airboxes.

I don't see what material the airbox is made out of affecting the emissions test in NSW. From my understanding it is a simple pass or fail based on what comes out of your exhaust pipe following the IM240 procedure.

That's for the emissions part anyway.

Although that now has me thinking. Who checks things like having a catch can vented to atmosphere?

Well it passed the IM240 (on the second try, *just*) and my engineer is fine with the metal airbox so that's all good. As for the catch can the engineer should spot it during his checks, if not then the blue slip guy should knock it back.

The MX-5 has been running flawlessly for the last few months but I really do want to sell it rather than putting it back in the garage long term. I have too many projects and with the Silvia becoming my daily drive shortly it's time to say goodbye to the MX. I'll be sad to see it go and may come back to an MX-5 in the future but it's time for a change.

$10,500 ono. or $11,500 with the brand new 0km Roush/Magnuson MP90 supercharger, nearly finished custom manifold and Supra injectors.

That is less than just the cost of parts in the car, not counting the hundreds of hours of labour in the engine swap.

So I'm tired of looking at a non-running car. I can't really afford to engineer the 2.5L V6 and I don't have time to make the new sump/cooling system that it needs.

Enter the BP05 NA8 engine. I have a 2nd hand EMS Stinger ECU from a friend and just need to find a starter motor, alternator, engine mount brackets, dip stick tube and full exhaust for this new engine and I'll be back on the road for summer!

If anyone has those bits please feel free to PM me :)

I had gotten used to seeing your parked MX-5 on my regular rat-run to work, and wondered what happened when it disappeared a few months ago. It's good to hear it will be going again soon.

Haha, of course! I wouldn't sell that thing, big plans for it. In fact I mainly want the MX-5 working so I have something fun to drive while I... turbocharge the Silvia :D

Haha yeah it was parked unregistered on the street for a long time before someone reported it. It lives in my driveway at the moment, spiderwebs all over it, but soon it will live again!

such a tragic shame you did all that work. And to put a BP back in it.

The work won't be lost. I didn't need to modify the chassis at all to fit the KL and I'll be keeping all the engine mounts, gearbox adapter, etc. all together. I'm sure at some point someone will buy it to put in their car, or I'll make a new sump and fit it back in when I have more $$$.

There are still cars out there on the roads which are faster than the S13, and for the amount of effort I've already put into it that is just unacceptable! I find it unfair that someone who isn't even into cars can go out and buy a 911 turbo which would be as quick or quicker than my car which I've put so much blood, sweat and tears into.

A turbo 5.7L V8 in a 1240kg RWD chassis should solve that problem :)
