Hardtop mounting accessories..

Postby BISCUITS » Sun Sep 25, 2016 11:22 am

I have this scenario as per attached photos. Is there meant to be holes in the plastic for the striker plate mounting bolts to go through?
Mazda supplied part that has 2 mounting holes but the way it has steps on the surafce, i am not sure if i have been given correct part?
Thanks in advance for any help / advice..

No that's correct. The quarter trim is different to accomodate the striker plates. You can kind of see the oval shaped cut out on my quarter trims at the bottom of this photo:

You can see here how NB owners have to cut the plastic trim:

The NA panels (at least mine) come from Mazda with the cut out.
Could always by some for very little money from a wrecked NA.

I don't have those or use them in my hardtop and it's fine.

Caveat - only dealt with NA6/NA8 versions.

The Trim when removed will have an oval shape on the backside which is the bit that needs to be cut out to allow the latch plates to be installed.

Every trim I have seen (as above from NA6/NA8) that did not have Hardtop latch plates from factory has the oval shape outlined on the back.

Assuming the NB trim is similar - remove trim - cutout oval where that is stamped in on rear of trim - re-install trim - install latch plates. The bolt holes for the latch plates should be there in the chassis (you obviously cannot see them with the trim you currently have).
