Hey all,

I'll be doing a service on the car on Monday, and I have the I.L. Motorsports 8mm leads to go in. Will standard sparks suffice, or do I need to change them?

You only change type of plugs if you've had other issues to require it, not just for leads.


In saying that, I would put new plugs in at the same time, purely because they're cheap And it's only another 5mins.

Yeah, I was planning on new plugs anyways. Just didn't know if the size of the lead affected the plug, that's all.

Nah, the lead will just mean the existing plugs will get a cleaner/stronger pulse and work better.

Yay, 100th post!

So, did a few interesting things yesterday:

- Switched the fuel filter for an ILM one. Lots of fuel everywhere, I was kinda smelly at the end. But I got it all in and now know better for next time.

- Installed the ILM air filter kit with a K&N filter. Looks OEM so I like it. Can't get defected and all that. Cant hear any difference.

- Switched in the new ILM leads with a set of new standard plugs.

- 1500kms ago I put Seafoam in with the oil to help clean the inside of the engine. Oil came out nasty, which is a good thing.

- Bottle of Seafoam in the tank.

- Seafoam through the throttle body. I'm fairly sure people thought my car was on fire when I went for a run to clear it all out. Wouldn't do that again. Way to dangerous. But once again, it seemed to do the job and clean everything out.

and a pic of the engine bay as it now sits. Yes, I know I need to clean it...

Nice job with the IL cold air intake.

I've always liked them, such a tidy design.

Agreed, looks like a factory fitted item.
What's the deal with the rad cooling panel?
Was it part of the ILM intake kit?

That radiator is looking a little green, a sign that it's getting to the end of it's life. Unless it's just the way it looks in the photo, I'd be putting a replacement on the "things to do soon" list.

The front panel with the K&N sticker is part of the kit. It replaces the top radiator mounts and pushes the radiator back about an inch for more air.

Yeah it looks worse in the pic than reality. But it is on the list of things to do.

Still have a few tests I wanna run. But it is breathing better through the rev range. As in smoother reving, but that could also be the new plugs and leads.

Ok, so I have been doing some extra driving and a few small tests (this mainly consists of driving up my regular hills).

So yes, more torque and power, and way more smoothness.

Spirited take offs are much more enjoyable now. Highway entrances from fuel stop have been great fun. The intake sound is deeper than oem, but nothing like a pod. Revs are more free flowing in the top end, doesn't feel like a struggle anymore, but still not as happy as say my old NA6 was.

The big one for me was at Catherine hill along the Hume Highway just coming into the Southern Highlands. Before I did all this, the car would back off from 110 to around 95 going up the hill in fifth. Yesterday, with my wife and I in the car. She accelerated up the hill in fifth at around half throttle. Bloody phenomenal if you ask me.

So yeah, all very happy now.

Also got some new tyres today cause the old ones were shot to hell. Hankook H457 Ventus2 Conept2 in 195/50/R15. I know they're only ok tyres, but for $294 for four tyres fitted and balanced, woot!

Not much has been done on the car since the service. Saving up for a new radiator, roof, and clutch. In that order.

However, my loving wife bought me a remote central locking kit for xmas, and gave it to me early. Yay!

However, before I install I'd like some help. This is the install guide:

I'll need to make a 2.5 meter harness to go from the secondary unit to the main door actuator. It'll have to go through the engine bay, back through the right fender and into the door panel.

I've already found the constant under the dash, so that should be fine.

My big question is how to make the lights blink. The purple wire in the diagram is for that. Should I connect it to the hazard light wire, will it work?
