Its likely the half moon seal. The genuine ones dont fit very well, and I think the ones mazda australia are now supplying are aftermarket.
Use a lot of toyota black.

When you replaced it you degreased the bellhpusing and back of the engine yeah?
They aren't just seeing old oil that's leaked and assuming it's the rear main?
