Stacker light problem Advice sought

Postby Danny » Wed Sep 21, 2016 6:18 pm

I've fitted the MX5 6cd stacker to my '99 Pajero. The display works and dims when the running lights are turned on. But not the lights for the control buttons. Everything else including the auto ant signal works as required.

The plug for the radio I cut out of a wrecked Mazda and spliced it to a Pajero ISO plug. I'm confident I got them all correct including the light signal wire, especially since the display does dim when the running lights are turned on.

From checking google I've learnt there can be either a pulsed or inverted signal. I don't know if the Pajero is too old to have either of these signals. I've tried both without success. When I check the voltage of the Pajero light signal wire it varies between 11v and 12v depending on the dimmer position.

I've fitted the unit back into the SE and it works properly there so nothing seems to be blown.

So can anybody clue me on what I need to do?

E Pulsed Dimmer (TNS+) Red/Black

Seems that people just tap into another switch/bulb inside the dash that adjusts brightness with the dimmer knob.

If you had access to a car like this, would you take it back right away? Neither would I.

I tried both the pulsed + to the radio and then the inverted - to the radio. Both will dim the display when I turn on the lights but neither turns on the control button lights. It seems from those links that I leave the pulsed + connected to the radio E but I should also run a lead from the radio G inverted - to the cigarette lighter bulb. I'm assuming the '99 Pajero has a similar dimming set-up to those early MX5's.

I'm worried though that I may blow something if wrong. While testing that would a fuse on the G link to the lighter bulb protect the radio? Which side of the lighter bulb should I connect it to? Dimmer side or the other side?
