Re: Black or Silver ?
Another vote for black (will increase re-sale value and have a bigger market if you decide to sell it).

Re: Black or Silver ?
We're talking about the speed deck, right? I did mine silver, I'll find some photos so you can see what you think. I felt that the black just wouldn't look right on a light bodied car like the sunlight silver. I feel the same way about black wheels on the SS also, it's just too heavy a colour for the rest of the body, IMO.

Re: Black or Silver ?
Here's one look, and a few links to my album. Have a click through. Theres a few shots throughout the album.
2 problems going silver is:
1. You need to paint match - mine isn't perfect, it looks OK to most people, but I can see the difference.
2. Cost, you could do a backyard job to paint it black, but to go silver you'd probably need a professional job.

Re: Black or Silver ?
A note. I think the shape of the twin-hoops has changed slightly since these speed decks were made. Mine didn't fit quite right and we needed to trim the cut outs in the deck for the hoops upright bars. I confirmed this wasn't just my deck by trying to fix MINX's deck on my car, same issue. It wasn't much, and you might think it should fit if you just move it this way or that, but you'll just end up scratching your roll bar Probably best to sort this out before you paint it.

Re: Black or Silver ?
Hmm. I was going to say silver but after seeing ManiacLachy's it might be too much. Is hard to tell with just one side view photo though.
Personally I'd like a genuine CF one.
I do wonder what it would look like black with silver humps.

Re: Black or Silver ?
Contrast it slightly and go for a Titainium or Nickel Silver?
Not as "One size fits all" as Black would be and you avoid the colour matching issues of going for the stock Silver.
Then you could always get the wheels painted/coated the same so that the curtains match the carpet, so to speak...

Re: Black or Silver ?
Depends on the look you are after. Maybe grab one of the pics provided and do a photoshop job?
I went gloss black with my decklid, hardtop, wing mirrors and window frame.
Also refinished in black the the windscreen cowl (gloss) and wiper arms (flat).
Ties in with the black twin-hoop and interior and it all comes together very nicely, IMO.

Re: Black or Silver ?
Just apologising to ManiacLachy. I somehow missed all the other pictures he posted. I do like the look of his car, especially at a rear 3/4 angle.
I bet it looks better in real life too.
Is easier for me to relate to Blackleafs car though, being red and a NA. I would have never painted my windscreen surround black but after seeing it with the black decklid I'm very impressed.
Will be interesting to see which way you go.

Meh, no need to appologise. It's all individual tastes, and the great thing about MX-5s is that you can do so much to them to make them your own. I guess I'm trying to make mine look integrated to the body, where a black version (on a non-black car) gives the appearance of a top like a tourneau. No right or wrong here, just preferences.
The Porsche Boxster Spyder is my influence/inspiration. I just need the bikini top and centre exhaust to finish off the look

Plus a couple hundred grand!
I reckon a nice metallic gun metal grey. It would then suit any colour car.

Re: Black or Silver ?
Silver for me.
If it's going to be black it's going to be basically hidden.
In which case you may as well have saved the money and just used the oem tonneau.
So yeah, silver here.
