A tyre shop is reticent to repair that tyre solely because of liability, not because it is irrepairable. Some tyre shops will plug tyres but with an internal type of plug that is not classified as an emergency repair, but the trye has to be removed from the rim. If you buy a good quality tyre plug repair kit (I can personally vouch for the ARB Tyre Plug Kit, as I have 3 kits currently, 1 in my work truck, 1 in my MX5 and one in my wife's car). I have personally used tyre plugs for at least15 years and never had one fail. The kit in my work truck has fixed at least 10 flat tyres. My work truck (Toyota Hiace) currently has 2 plugs in one tyre from screws that have been picked up whilst driving and both are right on the shoulder of the tyre. I even noticed another nail head in the same tyre last week but will wait till the tyre starts to leak before worrying about plugging it.Nails generally start leaking once they become rusty. Screws tend to slowly leak continuously because of their thread. Worst repairable damage I have had was where a sheet of metal actually cut a tear across the shoulder of a tyre. There was a flap of rubber and the cut was more than a few mm's wide at the internal surface of the tyre. I still managed to put 3 plugs in the tear, inflate the tyre and drive away but given the size of the cut I did replace the tyre a few days later. I recently attended a driver training day where 2 drivers had screws in their tyres and both had reasonably fast leaks where they dropped tyre pressure over a 20-30 minute period. We plugged their tyres and they completed a driver training day without anymore problems.

Re Plugging tyres

If I had a work truck....plugged tyre would work (it would have a full size spare)

My wife's car....plugged tyre would work (it has a full size spare)....and it isn't dríven hard...by her or me

My NA8....I'd buy new tyres....it only has that tiny spare and it is dríven with vigour....at times
