Hey Magpie. You seem to know your tyres. Would you be prepared to post your your selections for the best 195/50-15 tyres for: Wet, dry, accasonal track days, quietness etc. ?

No and that's why I'm here looking for specific recommendations rather than looking for the cheapest.
I just don't need the latest and greatest to drive around the suburb twice a week.

Re: Latest & greatest 195/50-15 ??
At the moment I would have to say of all the tyres I have used to date the AD08R's have been the best for any type of driving, wet/dry/track. Trackphoto's has commented when he had a drive of my car that it is limited in grip by the AD08R's and with real R specs on it would be a lot faster.
Previous tyres used:
R888's - noisy on the road, limited road km's, great grip when at the right temp/pressure however little warning when on limit of grip.
595RSR's - not as noisy as other tyres, suitable for occasional track use and not as sensitive to temp/pressure requirements. Good all round tyre but has been superseded by an alleged better version. The 595's come out in many flavours so be aware of which one you are looking at.
FZ201's - noisy road tyre and questionable in the wet for daily use. No longer sold by Federal in Australia and based on how they grip when they wear I know why. No amount of octopus grip can bring life back into these once they are at the end of their life. They heat cycle out long before the tread wears out. For example worn FZ201's are at least at least 2 secs slower than a set of AD08R's that are 50% used!
DZ03's - I have only done a few laps on these and the tyres were almost stuffed so cannot really comment, but unlike the FZ201's they still grip when almost worn. I doubt that they would be suitable for a daily drive tyre due to their wear rating and costs.
Trackphoto's has very good feedback on Hankook's Z214's as does The American on AO50's but again these tyres may not suit the daily drive crowd. Remember less grooves in the tyre means that there is less ability to channel water away...
Irrespective of what tyres you use, getting the correct pressure set is very important as is an alignment to match your preferences/driving style. However if your alignment is crap or suspension not correctly set up then tyres will not help.

Do you think the price of PS3 will go down when it happens?
Or is it at its lowest already?

Cheaper but still good quality tyres exist for sure.
As it has been said, wait for a 4 for 3 sale from Bridgestone, hankook or kumho etc. I got a set of Bridgestone eco tyres for my partners astra (bigger than mx5 tyres) for a bit less than $400. They work just fine.

Well I ended up with Michelin PS-3's. 195/50-15 on factory 15x6 rims. Light, comfortable, quiet and reliable.
I have had Michelins on other cars and always been very happy with them. Like going to McDonalds for food, I bought what I'm familiar with.
The cook has taken a keen interest in the car and the Michelins will be a good compromise for street use rather than an all out performance tyre.
