Nicework STM
If you had access to a car like this, would you take it back right away? Neither would I.

Re: Patchy's Fawlty Towers risk management. Enter at own risk
Things happened today

Looks like oil was leaking into No4 cylinder ..... Could be why I was using oil so much.... Time will tell.
The head gasket came straight off without too much trouble. Same with the head. Not much effort required.
One bolt was reasonably loose. But it was at the front.
After cleaning the Pistons & block

And getting the head ready for a shave
Yea I know the spark plugs are still in but they were taken out.

Hopefully I can have the head shave done by next weekend.
Looks like I might need to source a fuel rail spacer.
I didn't see it drop but I can't for the life of me find it anywhere . It looks like it was there cause it nice & clean where it's supposed to be. If it wasn't the place would be all dirty. Right.
Time to have a scotch.

Loving your renewed enthusiasm STM. It's a great chance to teach the kids how an engine works when they can actually see the valves and pistons etc.

I'm a bit pissed off. The machinist would only take off 0.75mm off the head.
Not happy Jan
I'm sure he could have taken off another 0.2 mm anyway probably just being conservative.
Sourced a 0.67mm head gasket and a few other things

Slight detour.
Thanks to Billybunter and some of his great tips viewtopic.php?f=28&t=71441&p=892851#p892851
Painting the bonnet & bumpers and maybe various other panels will be pursued once the engine is back in order.

Re: Patchy's Fawlty Towers risk management. Enter at own risk
waiting on some bits from the US.
USA is certainly not cheap on international shipping costs. Got totally raped. Feeling a little violated
anyhow one of the things I picked up was a head porting kit.
in hindsight I should have just gone to get one off the local ebay ones....

I ended up with this.....I felt comfortable with instructions on the net but the shipping costs really kills it. I really labored over the decision as I really have no idea what I'm doing here so I thought I'd go with the same kit as the instructions I'm using. The compressor is also still a few weeks off As I want to get the right one for spraying eventually. Refer to BillyBunters spray gun thread
If anyone in Sydney has a cracked or Useless NA6/.8 head lying around as paperweight. Happy to take it off your hands. Its really just to practice my hand at polishing/ porting aluminum.

Polishing is hard work. I'd still love to get a spare valve cover and have a crack regardless.

Yea I have a bit of time until all the other bits arrive.
The front gut cut off recently when I ran out of patie3nce with removing the cover all the time while adjusting the cams.
It needs to be cleaned up squarely....or a bit more neatly, I butchered it a bit.

Unfortunately a little delay has been forced upon me.

Hand got injured. Otherwise lucky to walk away.
Expecting a few weeks recovery
