No question about fibreglass tapes - they work. And like madjak I've touched exhaust systems that have been wrapped and not been burnt.

I've used VHT type paints and they burn off over time. I've also used ceramic paints, and they burn off over time...but they are more effective that VHT paints. They do "contain" the heat somewhat - I had part of the exhaust system on my Alfa painted and the header / mid section (well, the mid section at least) you could touch. The unpainted rear section however, was too hot to touch.

Does it provide any real benefit...mmm...not so sure / don't believe so.

I am having my manifold and part of the turbo ceramic coated, more for disguise and because I can't stand the sight of surface rust when the VHT paint has burnt off (I expect the ceramic coating to be a lot "tougher"). If it helps reduce heat, great. Other than that, I expect I'd need a NASA quality ceramic tile like finish to keep things cool.

You could always go "Old School"
Heat up bare headers and paint them with brasso
Turns them bright Matt white

I ceramic coated my headers....
Reduced engine bay temp by 30dc and got an extra 29 hp
Not really....but they look pretty ;)
