Thoughts on NB8B for sale (Perth)
Hi all
Just wanted to see what people thought of the following NB8B?
http://www.gumtree.com.au/s-ad/waterfor ... 1122191500
Not sure if the high km's means it's is going to turn out to be a money pit but thought it might be ok as a starter into the Mx5 life?
Comments mighty appreciated.
Thanks in advance

Link only goes to Gumtree, not to the ad.

Is it the vehicle that attracted you? Or the price? If it's the latter I'd keep looking as there are plenty for sale.

Given it looks like you're in WA where the supply of MX5s is a bit less than in the East, it's worth a careful inspection by someone who knows what they're looking for. 216k kms, but it's over 15 yo in WA (so possibly rural kms), & priced accordingly ($6.6k) as long as condition is very good or better. Only 3 months rego, but said to be serviced 6 months ago, with new clutch, new battery, & with belts changes (need to confirm 'belts' include timing belt & water pump) 10k kms ago. Soft top a little tired, but seller also says he'll consider all reasonable offers. Looks ok in pics, but only an inspection will reveal all.
2001 Mazda MX5 manual racing green. 215k. Cold air induction with original air intake included. Spare radiator as well. Upgraded suspension and seats from 2004 MX5. Has ABS and dual airbags. Upgraded HID headlight and sports pedals. Lightened flywheel and heavy duty clutch. Last serviced in Feb 2016. Belts changed last year about 10000kms ago. Paintwork in good condition. A few very small dents which are quite discreet. Brand new battery fitted in August. Soft top is a little tired, but no leaks. Reason for selling is that doesn't get dríven much and under appreciated. SMS or message/email preferred if you need more details or want to arrange an inspection. Will consider all reasonable offers. Looking for a quick sale.

Yep, Nb8B's in WA are somewhat scarce at the moment. Will look at getting an inspection done and subject to a good service history/positive inspection, one can presume that even though it is somewhat in the high K range, it may be ok going forward?

"Will consider all reasonable offers. Looking for a quick sale."
Assuming the car and the seller and the ownership and the service history all check out, what number will your offer start with?

I am not sure - bargaining is not really part of my skill set. However, I tend to ask what they will let it go for and move from there.
The old adage "one man's gain is always another man's loss" resonates within.

I would suggest that bargaining is indeed part of your skill set. Check all the credentials before negotiating. And check that it is indeed for sale if you can agree the $$$$ before you start talking $$$$. And that there is no-one else who needs to be consulted or taken into account.

Re: Thoughts on NB8B for sale (Perth)
I'd be keen for it to get a lot of the parts which I could use to upgrade mine. The cost of getting it to the East Coast is too prohibitive to make it worth while unfortunately. (Not that many were even willing to carry it with the back suspension like that)

A complete or near complete service history isn't an assessment of current condition & faults. It's a nice to have, but current condition & faults can only be assessed by a comprehensive inspection by a qualified individual, assuming you want to avoid unwanted surprises.
It's a 15yo car so kms are not particularly high for a car of that age - that said a number of MX5 are not daily drivers, so tend to have lower than average kms. However, as MX5 prices have dropped over the years they've become more affordable to a broader range of drivers, & their average kms have increased. There are a few MX5s on this forum with over 400k kms, & a number with over 300k kms.

many of us would say lower kms is a better proposition - if you can afford more money then you can get better condition and lower klm car. Usage wears cars out and thats inescapable but some people just dont care.
