Why not get something made locally?

Re: The Roadster NA Journey Begins
Test fitted and it is loud, even just reving it to 3,500. Real world test at QR in a few weeks. Getting very close to not having it registered.
It was made local, by Scott's Rod, for me their is nobody better closer! I may ask if they can do an aluminium version if this works. Still have to fit the rear difusser and put some hose clamps on the hangers, but a very cheap weight saving.
Did chat to CES as well, they are flat out at the moment but a visit for a discussion about their headers is on the cards after WTAC.

Re: The Roadster NA Journey Begins
Sorry to say Mark, but as someone who is also generously proportioned, the easiest way to get weight out of the car is to drop that 10kg. I know I have to when I get back, and that is the target over the next few months for when I am not living in a hotel.
That weight loss then allows you to run an exhaust that will be quiet enough for all race tracks. Remember, it is a requirement for all CAMS tracks to also be at 90dB at 30m, which is easier than trackside like Lakeside, granted.
Or why not go for a side exit pipe, saves even more weight when you only have half the pipe. My Zed had the side pipe exiting at the rear of the door on the right hand side and with one muffler in the centre was more than quiet enough for Lakeside. Mine was tucked up high enough that I could run at about 80mm ground height quite easily, with the front rails being the lowest part of the car.
Or if you want a way to quieten the exhaust and make power, throw a turbo on it, best mufflers known to man

Re: The Roadster NA Journey Begins
MattR yep I could loose the weight, but I'm avoiding it until I have no other option
For what this cost it is probably the least I have ever spent
Still have to modify the air intake and this is very cheap, a simple donut vent and some 3" hose. Finally an alignment before WTAC and that is it.
Money is being used for track time not mods!

Losing the sprung weight in the seat is the easiest, cheapest and most beneficial weight loss that you can do in terms of performance.

Re: The Roadster NA Journey Begins
A bit more noise... May have to think about a conditional/CAMS rego and take it off the road, however swapping the muffler takes about 30 mins so not a big issue.

Re: The Roadster NA Journey Begins
A conditional/CAMS rego, if you are talking about rally rego is very restrictive Mark, can only drive on roads for events IIRC, and must still meet most requirements of vehicles in terms of roadworthy stuff. And the car hasn't hit the magic 30 years for club rego, which again is very restrictive in use.
So either keep it legal for the road or save the near $600 a year on rego and make it a full track car. If you are going to keep playing with it, the road/track compromise will get really frustrating really fast.

Clubsprint Class must comply with 95db @ 30m noise restrictions
Anybody in Brisbane have a noise meter I can borrow?

Thanks, did not think of that! At least it will give me a guide. I can always have a new one made with a resonator in it.

Re: The Roadster NA Journey Begins
QR will test it for you and that will give you a good idea of how it will go.
If you pass at Lakeside you will pass anywhere else at a CAMS track.

Re: The Roadster NA Journey Begins
Started the car on Saturday and was informed that it is louder in the flesh than in the video. The WTAC 95dba at 30m applies to clubsprint only and is from ANYWHERE.
Apart from a brake pad/rotor wear check the car has done nothing since its last QR outing. Street Sprints this weekend at QR then off to GT Auto for a check of the tune and a firmware update followed by Accurate Suspension visit and one more general practice prior to leaving for Sydney.
Finished another pit trolley to help be a little more organised, plus it is handy in the shed and is helping my welding improve. The trolley has a decent 12v compressor, 12v power sources, USB power source and with all the weight down low it is very stable.

Re: The Roadster NA Journey Begins
Trolley looks great, bonus points for minimum footprint.
Consider adding a detachable shelf with a ridge for handtools tools so that you don't need to bend down to pick them up.
If you put small wheels on the shelf too it can also serve as a tool dolley when you're under the car - I made one of these and it made life a LOT easier, as long as you make sure you have all the required tools (no more feeling around everywhere for tools spread about everywhere when lying on my back under the car, they're all in the tool dolley which I can move around).
Also, needs stickers!
