Jesse's NA6 from the south

Postby Jessegroves » Sun Aug 28, 2016 11:21 am

So it's been a long time since I've posted! After getting defected progress was quite slow, but I've done several things since then.

The most major has probably been the tan conversion I did recently.

I bought some original tan carpet from an LHD USDM mx5 and had it shipped over. Having the drivers side swapped in relation to the carpet didn't make a whole lot of difference as the handbrake is still in the same spot and the dead pedal holes in the (now) passenger footwell are covered by the floor mat.

I also purchased some tan seat covers, which were quite an experiment to install

I also purchased some tan vinyl which I used to cover the door cards in the meantime as people wanted way too much for tan door cards.

I used a blade to cut it to shape about 2cm away from the edge so I could fold them over the back and use a staple gun to stick them in place.
I cut slices in the edges where the corners are so they could overlap and sit snug. This was quite a cheap and easy job as mx5 door cards are completely flat :)

I was pretty chuffed at the result in the end! More updates soon :-)

Nicely done! I've always liked the tan interiors.

I found some really cheap sill panels on yahoo Japan and had them imported, cost around 75 bucks.

The plastic panels had been damaged and all the paint on the sills had some off and I liked the look of the JDM sill panels Image

Nice job on the seats.
Would like to see more pics of the seats and door trims when you have the time. They look sensational and go very well with the red and black.

Cheers bud :)

I bought 2 seat covers from a trim company from the US for 300, each seat comes in 2 separate pieces and the original covers have to removed first.

The door panels were super easy, just bought a sheet of tan vinyl for $15 bucks, was enough to cover the door.
I layed it over the original door card and traced around it etc and just stapled it over the original black so I can remove it if I want.

My rotors were pretty old and they needed replacing so I bought a pair of oem rear rotors and dba slotted rotors for the front because why not!

I probably should of done pads at the same time but ah well, not a difficult job.

Heres how they came.

After being defected I wanted to find a nice set of wheels with a less aggressive offset. I found a set of 15x7 Koya Supersports, so I shipped them over and fitted them

So I finally got my coilovers in this weekend!

Yellowspeed Dynamic Pro's

Didn't take too long to install, at first it was so low that the wheel constantly scrubbed the guard when turning, so some adjustments had to me made, now they sit alright but the rears need to come down a bit more,
Overall, so happy with the result, looks great and most of all, handles amazingly :)

Nice, can't wait to see it painted.
If you had access to a car like this, would you take it back right away? Neither would I.

Spent Sunday Afternoon modding na8 mirrors to fit an na6. I liked the look of the electric mirrors much better and they seem to flow with the body a lot nicer. I picked up a set cheap and fitted them, only issue is there over 3x heavier than the 6 mirrors at 1kg over 290g. ImageImage

The plan is to respray the car, have had a few quotes, and I'm almost ready, I'm still unsure to keep it red again or go with a 95 M Edition Merlot. I think the latter. Image

Looking great. Wish i had power mirrors!
I'd have to see the merlot with tan seats before i can be convinced. Sounds fine in my head but we all know red is a winner :)
