Yeah I had planned on doing a full undertray atm.
Right now it's more experiment for effect. This will only be the first. So class rules aren't too much of a concern for me atm. But yes I had been looking at the rules. I can't go past the outside line of the front bumper for my intended class when I compete.

Mine is mounted using 3mm alloy bar stock, and is plenty strong enough to survive the hundreds of times I've banged it OVER kerbs, yet still shears straight off with no damage to car when I bang it INTO kerbs..

Would using the factory mounts for undertray achieve that well enough?

That's kinda what mine is.
The 3mm alloy bar is bent at both ends into a long squared off 'C' (eg |______| ) and one end bolts to the captive nut up in the frame that the factory undertray bolts to. The other end hangs down to meet the splitter and is bolted through the ply.
I then bolt the rear of the ply splitter to the rear subframe mounts again that the std undertray uses.
The front has u-bolts bolted to the ply and tied to the front baby teeth with cable supports (so has flex <-- important. I orig used solid turnbuckles but kept bending them, Cable fixes this as supports downward forces, but allows some upward movement)
This way its quite solidly mounted, and I can stand and jump on it (and bounce off kerbs) yet when you hit something more substantial, the alloy bar just shears off and the bolts pull through the ply meaning it comes out without damaging/bending any subframe or chassis bits..

Likewise mine can take a decent hit from the bottom, but not on the leading edge. It is designed to be pushed backwards so it will fall off its mounts but be able to take downforce and upforce.

Dont have any good pics of the current setup.
This is the first setup a couple of years ago now, using the turnbuckles.
Below is a blurry shot using the cable supports and u-bolts. (and some temporary wheels splats)
u-bolts was probably a bad term. Its the u shaped supports used in ballustrade kits.

Aaah. So those front mounts are the main fuse of the situation? They are the bits that break when you decide rally is more fun.

Actually all the mounts are 'fuses'. All designed to break first before the car itself does..
