200rwkw is a nice number. Not too scary. 250rwkw is a whole other kettle of fish.
Spinning wheels in 4th scary. Good for a track car with slicks but on the road with a bit of rain you have to drive like you are driving Miss Daisy :D :D :D
Not to mention a special cushion button clutch and very possible gear stripping. Sure you can take it easy and never have these issues(Like me a little  ) But I have found it very hard not to put the boot in whenever you get the chance and on the street and that could lead to a loss of license on the spot and car impounded.

The stock SE turbo isn't good for much over 160-170kw. But if you've upgraded rods and turbo, then you should be all good. Not that you wouldn't be happy with 200kw

They can certainly do at least 244rwkw with the right turbo, forged bottom end and other supporting mods. A good tuner will ensure the torque is controlled so that as far as possible the transmission stays reliable. Grippier tyres, which you will need, would put the gearbox under more pressure, of course. And then you need to make sure it can pick up enough fuel going round long left handers so it doesn't run lean, and then ..............

LOL.. thanks for clarification re: my minimal posts.. :D
I turn around a few cars so there were periods where i wasn't in an MX5. :(
Garrett GT28/60RS disco potato is the new turbo and rods / pistons were upgraded. Unfortunately a standard headgasket wad used; so builder advised to limit to 200RWkW. Your thoughts please? I'll be stoked with 200 regardless. Thanks very much for your comments...

I'm no engine builder, but I haven't heard of issues with the stock gasket, maybe NitroDann will chime in. Anyway, the tuner will do what he can, but I think that turbo with a built engine should get a little more, but hell, you'll be laughing yourself silly at 200kw!

The difference between 200 and 250 is a second mortgage
And that's on top of the first mortgage you needed to get to 200 :)

Id imagine a stock head gasket would go 1000hp, its a multilayer steel gasket and is generally considered to be better than a Cometic Gasket.

Ive got them on a tonne of 300-400whp cars. The majority of cars that I fit bolt on kits to have totally stock engines, right down to the cams, and most make around 200rwkw just like that.

Looking forward to hearing the results of the tune. 200rwkw will be a handful!

Some great feedback here peoples; thanks very much..
I am a little perplexed as to why my engine builder in Brisbane said the standard head gasket was only good for 200kW though (now having read NitroDann's and others opinions). I might have to dig up the receipts / e-mails to confirm what i've got i.e. brands of internal parts and show you "the list".. :D
I've got an R35 to line up with when the SE is fully tuned, but me thinks (even the GTR in standard trim) it might be a bit too much to ask of the mighty SE. The Skyline is scary fast to drive but the MX5 is going to take fun to another dimension i reckon.
I believe i was the first to fit a Raptor Supercharger to my 1993 LE many moons ago got 140 whp (15 sec 1/4 mile) on 6psi with a Haltech fuel only ECU and made it in their Haltech calendar. Loved my last SP but wanted to do this SE build. I look forward to your feedback when i list my parts spec peoples. Thanks again.. John

I think the R35 will just walk away from you, but that's OK. A $100k+ super car should be able to walk an MX-5, tuned or not! Power aside, it's got the grip advantage and a dual-clutch gearbox, I know it's a porker but it's 0-100 time is in the high 2s!

The R35 can give a Yamaha R6 a scare. The R35's claimed high 2s is similar to a 1000cc sports bike but in the real world, the GTR isn't quite 1000cc territory yet (in standard trim). Much more comfortable when i am driving the R35 in contrast to wind buffeting on a 1000cc though. LOL..
