Car cover (indoor)

G'day, I'm wanting to get an indoor use only cover for my new ND. Can anybody suggest any particular brands? Custom made or off the self? What material?

Even though it's parked in a locked double garage a lot of dust from a nearby busy road seems to come in due to the prevailing breeze direction.

I googled and Chief Car Covers www.carcovers.com.au came up and I did and online quote $355 for a cotton one (an envelope turned up a few days later with material swatches in it).

To be honest, if it's indoors I'd use a king sized bedsheet.

A lot more easily washed than tailored covers, Which over time buildup dust etc in them and scratch/scuff paint.

Hey Andrew, given that you have an ND you may not be as budget constrained as myself but I can recommend one of these:

which I've been using as a dust cover on my NA for the past 3 years, much of which has been in a carport where it was hit by wind and rain as well. It's light, easy to roll up, doesn't take up much space, and hasn't caused any paint damage that I can see.

One thing though: don't try putting it through a washing machine - suffice to say I'm on my second one now :roll:

I use a customer made one indoors and it i very good at keeping the dust out provided its secured around the skirt- i.e. otherwise dust just goes up. There is maker in Melb ( Historic Car Covers Narre Warren) who measures and does them for all sorts of vehicles and well known in car circles. You actually want a material that has resistance to water and other liquids as well as dust- there is a Dupont material that HCC use. Not much value if the dust just permeates the surface. You can specify loops etc but if no pattern someone has to have the same car for measurement.

Thanks for the info. I've emailed Historic Car Covers to see what they come back with.

Bed sheets don't seem to be big enough so the Supercheap one might do in the short term though.

My main concern is not the paint because it wont be flapping around to cause abrasion. Its the canvas soft top with the humidity in Brisbane it would need to be material that can breath and not trap moisture?

I can confirm that my Supercheap cover is not waterproof so I assume it wouldn't trap moisture on the car.

After spending plenty on a custom car cover for a Volvo that I've used rarely after becoming old and lazy + 1 for old bed sheets undercover ... simple!

I've had lots of car covers over the years. Hate them as they get dirty and flap around.
Bedsheet for sure if indoors.

Autotecnica have one called a "showcar cover"
Very soft, not waterproof (so breathes vey well)
Comes in black, red and blue. Should go for approx $120 at any major chain. They are sooo soft. I use one for my fathers Westfield clubman which I try and keep immaculate. It has done the best job of anything I've found. Silky outer finish, very soft inner. If your around Chatswood way come see me at Auto One.

I've used the grey outdoor covers from supercheap over the years.
They have a vent front and back and a clip lock like a back pack that that joins the sides in the middle of the car.
Thing I don't like is over time grit can get in and I don't think they are washable.
King size flannel sheet would work and easy to wash.
If not big enough then join 2 together

Historic Car Covers uses TYVEK and the credentials are impressive- a custom made cover is made to suit a particular car or any machinery etc. It's said to be fully breathable , strong , lightweight,water repellant and rot resistant .My current cover is about 7 years old. It protects the vehicle from dust and minor abrasions and it's hand washable. My car is covered for most of the month in the garage and protects from dust.
