So here's the latest news:
- go pro & mounts purchased (sits on the BD diagnal bar)
- RB headers ceramic coated black
- full exhaust installed 2.5 inch all the way, sounds really good, thanks NitroDann.
- the muffler was custom made & is a replica of the integral kobe VER 3, N1 spec as seen here: http://rev9autosport.com/integral-kobe- ... -ver3.html. You don't really see much of the piping as it's all tucked in real well. I also replaced the OEM hangers with much stiffer items so the system doesn't move on bumps etc.
- i purchased an OEM rear lip spoiler from the states, it was the cleanest/non hooligan looking lip that i saw so went with it, but seeing it on a couple of NB’s in person, it sorta looks like an ironing board, so not sure if i will install it.. It’s not something pressing at this point in time, will see how it goes.
Things to do pre next track day:
- new radiator + silicone hoses, looking at the koyo 37mm type - anyone running these? ive been told anything bigger would need some chopping/custom work.
- minor service, oil + filter
- while im at it, whiteline front & rear sway bars with end links
It’s taking too long to acquire bit by bit, so i might just bite the bullet & slap it on the credit card in one hit, ive had other financial commitments to attend to so im starting to get impatient again. Otherwise Gorg’s is doing well, i’ve been thrashing him plenty since the new exhaust has been on. Im also soon going to purchase a set of street rims/rubber. I know exactly what i want but again ... $$$$$.
Lastly, had some pro photo’s taken on the last track day, looks the shiz.

Nicely done. Car looks very purposeful. Agreed about the oem spoiler, they look like a melted jelly bean, not very attractive.

Well.. It’s been way too long, but here is the latest:
- Koyo rad installed
- Whiteline adjustable front + rear sway bars installed
- 949 racing super miata end links installed
- Car has had oil + filter & radiator fluid replaced
- Coils have been stiffened (8 clicks from stiffest/medium setting)
- Aesthetics – removed the mud flaps from rear
- 2 year anniversary of ownership!
- Currently working on a fire extinguisher mount to sit under the passenger side seat area
- OEM cruise control unit removed from engine bay area
The sways have definitely improved the way the car handles & responds to steering input, it holds pretty flat at turn in & long bends. I attended a track day on the 18th May - which was the first for 2016, first session out, about 5 laps in the car switched off on the main straight.. I was confused when it first happened as the car just went quiet - i thought what did i break?! I rolled off the track & tried switching it back on but it didnt want to.. So had it towed back to pits. I tried to look into what it could have been & got on the phone with a mechanic to suss it out, the verdict was a either a sensor fault, an electrical, fuel or spark problem - so i called it quits & had the car towed home.. Massive pain in the a$$, given it took me so long to get the car sorted, waiting for parts, going to workshops etc. Of the 5 laps i completed the car felt good though - lol.
Fast forward a couple of days after & we found the issue to be a blown engine fuse! Following the replacement of a new fuse, took it for a drive only for the same thing to happen again about 15 mins later, luckily i was close by my home. Today the electrical issue is still not fixed as it’s intermittent - the car turns on & drives, but it’s just too risky to drive far out of the area. i have an auto electrician coming next weekend so that we can trouble shoot & try to finally resolve it. Read all about it here: viewtopic.php?f=18&t=72016 - i have replaced the CAS & will also look at replacing the crank sensor too.
On the cards:
- lower the rear slightly (in line with the front)
- ecliptech shift-i
- get the fire extinguisher bracket made up & painted
- radiator cooling panel maybe? Just to cover that ugly area up nicely
- MORE TRACK DAYS !!

Hey All, I haven’t been here for a while..so here are the latest blue turd activities:
- sorted out the electrical issue I had, it turned out to be the rear o2 sensor! the person who installed my exhaust was not very careful in that, rather than moving all wiring away from the hot metal piping that is the exhaust, both the front & rear o2 sensor wiring was touching/rubbing, in time the rubber housing melted & exposed the wiring, the wire was directly exposed onto the hot metal which eventually ate into the wire & caused the short. This was a very expensive lesson learned - take care in all mods & ensure the person working on your car does a thorough, thought out & clean job.
- had the garage star derlin door bushings machined (perimeters & fascia) & these now work like OEM in that both doors close much better than before & I don’t have to slam the crap out of them. I noticed some difference with respect to both sound/rattles & firmness, so happy with these.
- whilst at the machine shop I had the guy cut out my template fire extinguisher bracket - I had mocked one up using cardboard. Turned out really good, I filed it, removing all sharp edges & giving it a nice smooth finish, sanded it, primed & painted it black. The design is very basic & have seen others on here do something similar. I intend to run at SMP in due course hence adding this + it doesn't hurt to be extra cautious.
- beatrush cooling panel installed - this was more aesthetic for me as it covers that ugly open area up nicely, in saying that it does provide a good air dam for the KOYO rad.
- attended a track day in mid july - it rained all night before.. all morning.. all day.. & when I left the track, it was ridiculous & I ended up calling it a day after only 3
sessions, it just got too unpredictable. It was my first time in the wet with the rs3’s on & man it was a shock, it was as if the car was purposely trying to kill me, It was also such a tease, because you just want to drive normally & thrash it, but instead you have to be very cautious.. so it wasn’t the best of days but still good fun & better than being at work. It also put things into perspective for me, there was a dude in a new-ish civic type are who came off into the grass.. got some air & nose dived into the ground.. which popped his air bags & apparently bent his suspension/chassis..ultimately he wrote off his car, so after seeing that I thought.. yeh I should calm down. It’s definitely risky & costly, & sh!t can happen in a split second.
So whats next…
- I very badly need a rear lip spoiler..
- I very badly need some carbon craft square mirrors..
- minor interior change that will give it a lambo feel..
- drive the damned thing on a dry track..
- track day coming up in Sept with my old girl the s15.. should be interesting.. I hope it doesn’t break before that.

Finished product.. very proud of myself..
Had the car professionally buffed/waxed.. swirl marks eliminated & will offer protection going forward.

One of my favourite cars on here. Coming along really nicely dude. I've been looking at lots of wheels for my SE lately and its hard to go past 6ULs!
What are your opinions on the Teins having owned them for a while now? Have you been in another MX5 with MCA blues or Reds for comparison?

Thanks mate. 6uL's are clean looking, I'd say it's out of them & the rpf1's. The mono sports for me are really good, I had these on my s15 too.. They absorb well yet keep the ride firm enough, it's only if you really stiffen them up you will be bouncing around a lot on bumps.. Which can get scary at speed, but that's a given with any coil out there. If I can go back I maybe would have got the electronic damper control with it.. That would be so good.I've set mine to medium setting & it's a good compromise for road & track. I haven't been in other MX's with different set ups unfortunately. If ur thinking about getting them, they are a good investment.

so the previous owner had scratched up the glove box panel pretty badly.. surprisingly nowhere else in the interior is scratched, all other panels are pretty clean. anyways, after sitting in a lambo diablo..& my mates 180sx, i thought, there is a way to get rid of this mess.. so this happened:
went for something subtle/clean..alcantara, happy with the result.. looks the goods.

If you're interested in selling the cruise control I'd be keen. Mine has a broken cable. Scratched glove box lids are pretty standard - I've hardly ever seen a clean one. Your car looks brilliant BTW!

Awesome progress, Im only new to the Mx5 idea (still saving), but been awesome to read what you have done and the difference it has made keep it up!

Thanks dude, I was once like you. You can't go wrong bang for buck with an MX.. Very fun to drive & built for twisties/the track. Worse case scenario if you do smack it at the track, there's nothing owing in it.
Depending on which way you want to go id suggest you get in a well prepped one, that will give you better understanding around what to expect. See first page I ended up selling my s15 after I sat in an NB race car.

wow, I just got here...where do i start. good job err, nice job dealing with the wet track looks tickey being smooth on the exit, you were hardly provocating it.

Here's the latest:
- attended WP track day 26 Sept
- achieved a best time of 1:17.09, clearly not too happy about not beating my standing PB but still had fun..
- i need to keep these trackdays regular as i find that by the time i really get comfy on the track, the day is over
- i got sideways & had to back off about 3 times.. otherwise no spins
- lap times & driving in general were pretty consistent, but i need to find more courage, improve my lines by way of perhaps turning in later in turn 2 & turn 9, flat out in turns 6-7
- tyres were set to 28 psi hot (hankook rs3 225/45/15), they felt a little bit squishy/floaty to be honest.. i might play around with pressures next time i head out - push upto 30psi
- i may further stiffen coils in next day out
- otherwise, car ran flawlessly all day
- bumped into the old girl s15.. went for a spin in it, running e85 now @ 220kw .. damn i miss turbo..but still not chuckable like the blue turd..
- bumped into some fellow mx5 brothers.. Stan's NA is the nicest/cleanest i have seen!

Cool update. Interested in how u go with the mirrors and what sort of visibility u have with them. I use my passenger mirror to park to avoid curbing my wheels, so I'm always hesisitant to replace the stock mirrors.
Rear ducktail, mmm garagestar's demo mx5 has one that is moulded into the boot that looks really cool, check out their Instagram for pics. Also maybe try RS factory stage, they had a nice looking one for the NB.

cheers dude.. im pretty sure the visibility will be poor/decrease from OEM.. but they look awesome & weigh nothing. the only place i reverse park is in my garage.. besides that car doesnt get out too much.
