If you really must go for the second best solution, WIRE THEM TO GO OFF WHEN THE HEADLIGHTS COME ON. There are far too many fwits driving around at night with DRLs/'foglights' on, please don't be that person.

+1 also idiots with aftermarket HID's in their standard headlight housings

+1 for the HIDs. Those guys p**s me off.
I don't know of a supply that goes off when the lights go on. However, I can make a manual switch :D

No deal. With the best will in the world, I know how that is going to play.

Just get a relay that is open under power, and power it from the lighting circuit. That way when the lights are on, the DRLs are off. Easy.

Actually, having DRLs turn off whenever any light (including parkers) is turned on is a legal requirement in NSW.

When I fitted my DRLs (eBay cheapies for the moment) I bought a specific relay (also eBay) for the purpose.

BTW, they really do work and I haven't had anyone try and pull out in front of me since fitting them (touch wood).

pls read- a quality drl kit ( not expensive and with good output leds ) will have the right switching- you dont have to bugger around making up a ersatz version.

........ including as an apparent attempt to make up for a blown headlight globe. Foglights can only legally be used when it's foggy. Should be shot at dawn for any other use.

VicRoads but pretty much same everywhere ...

"Road Rule 217 states that drivers must not use front or rear fog lights unless driving in fog or other hazardous weather conditions that cause reduced visibility. They must be switched on separate from the main beam (high beam) and dipped beam (passing) headlights."

+1 for morning firing squads!

I see an alarming number of people driving around at night with no lights on except their fog lights. These are the people we share the roads with.... :(

Death penalty for incorrect use of foglights is slightly overkill. Slightly.

I would like dear Pauline from OneNation to act on the following in Parliament:

- driving with lowbeams and foglights on during a clear night, with accompanying daft excuse that the addition of foglights help them see better at night (If you struggle to see at night, you shouldn't be driving, find alternative means of transport). I vote drivers license suspension for 6 months.
- driving with highbeams on during a clear night. I vote drivers license suspension for 6 months
- driving at dawn, dusk and night without any lights at all. I vote drivers license suspension for 6 months
- driving at dawn, dusk and night with foglights only on. I vote drivers license suspension for 6 months
- driving with badly adjusted lights aimed UPWARDS, LEFTWARDS, RIGHTWARDS. I vote drivers license suspension for 6 months + fine for unroadworthy vehicle + roadworthy notice to correct vehicle defect
- driving with HID bright bulbs in reflector housing. You can tell them by the size of the lights pointed at you.
Acceptable xenon lights in projector housing look like this o_o; whereas illegal HID in reflectors are (((O)))_(((O))) and blue tinge.
I vote drivers license suspension for 6 years + fine for unroadworthy vehicle + roadworthy notice to correct vehicle defect

Who am I kidding.

Yes we have awesome technology at our fingertips. We just have morons operating them.

I agree with Kalts comments but no one has a drivers license in Australia as far as I am aware.

Funny you should say that. I was just reading up on NSW laws, and they have to go off when lights come on. Easy solution is a relay that connects to the headlight circuit that switches the DRLs off when the lights come on.
