air con removal

Postby 16bit » Mon Aug 22, 2016 1:00 pm

anyone removed aircon from an nb8a?

i have tried looking for a step by step but can only find it for an NA.

if anyone has a link to instructions that would be ace!

my compressor has a leak and I can't be bother to get it replaced so thought i would just remove it.

there shouldn't be any gas in my system at all.

na/ nb all much the same , back off 2 turnes of 14mm [ head] bolt on the centre of the tensioner pulley , wind down 10mm [head ] anti clockwise of long bolt on tensioner bracket , the pulley should now be moving down towards the ground with each turn . Move pulley down about 25mm the belt should now come off . you may have to remove any belts in front of a/c belt to get a/c belt off . Undo the suction and discharge lines , if your unsure about whether the system still has a charge [pressurised ] in it , just back off the pad / hose fittings on the compressor a few turns give them a wriggle and see if any gas escapes , if yes it will now totally discharge over the next 20/30 minutes . totally remove hoses from compressor , undo bolts holding comp. onto bracket [ maybe 4 bolts ] . If the comp shows no sign of an oily substance [ a mixture of R134 and lub. oil ] on the surface then it may well be a good comp . Now either rip out the rest , condenser ,drier, tube work etc , or just seal up the hosses . Don't forget to tighten the first 14mm and also 10 mm bolt up if you intend to leave the tensioner bracket on the car this is
'important . If you want more info let me know .

If you plan selling the AC unit....tape up ends of all pipes to make sure no moisture gets in the system
You can't demand respect....you have to earn it
NA8 for Fun, CX5 for carrying crap...;)

yeah cool.

the compressor is junk, might be able to be rebuilt but leaking like a sieve.

might be able to sell the other bits though.

thanks!
