I'm after standard replacement shockers to be supplied and fitted to our NB.
What is a ball park figure - I have been quoted $700 (?)
Thanks

I imported koni replacement oem shocks with new fcm bumpstops and fitted them myself for A $600.00.
Never put the top up unless the storm has a name.

That was for four. Took about one hour each corner.

$700? I think not unless you mean supplied and fitted. Even then, it would be pricey. KYB, an excellent Japanese company, make original spec replacements for the MX5 at a fraction of that price. They are called "Excel-G". Look them up. Lots of places stock them as they are a quality product at an affordable price.

x2 for KYB Excel-G. Good shocks!
Take care if you're installing them yourself and also worth warning your nmechanic if he/she's doing it. The metal in the centre shaft is quite soft and it's easy to strip the thread on the top centre nut. Better to add a second nut and lock them together rather than tighten the one nut hard.
edit: check them out on ebay - very cheap. If rear shocks are gone on an MX5 then the front shocks are probably stuffed too. It's easier to notice bad shocks at the rear because you're almost sitting on them.

Make sure when you order them that the spring rates are the same as your OEM ones.

Thank you guys - that gives me the incentive to shop around.
The $700 figure was for supply and fit two rear shockers.

Thanks for stopping me from making another mistake and paying more than necessary - now having KYB's (thanks Blesif) front & rear for not much more than the price that I was quoted for just the rears.
I will be sure to let the workshop know about the trick when fitting re stripping the thread (cheers manga_blue )
Looking forward to the improvement when we use the car next weekend.

Good one Charcoal. Enjoy. Manga Blue, give my love to Moruya, I lived there for 18 months. Nice town.
