Spend a few hours giving her a well deserved engine bay scrub. Quite happy with how well it scrubbed up actually. Only used degreaser, brush and the old elbow grease.

Some spots could do with a touch up of paint and would've loved to do the whole bay but time is of the essence. Hopefully my motor will be back soon :S

The boot had some horrendous corrosion and rust from a previous owner using the wrong battery without venting it properly.

So cleaned it all up and sprayed with some nice rustoleom stuff in a dark grey. Turned out pretty good if I must say so myself.

So my engine is back :D excited things are finally coming together. Ended up chickening out on the bottom end assembly, my engine shop ended up doing the short block assembly, measure and install of new bearings and rings for a touch under $300 (labour only). Turned out absolutely beautiful I'm very happy.

Standard pistons cleaned and fresh rings along with some H-beam forged rods for my peace of mind.

Will get some better photos over the weekend when it all goes together.

Shoutout to my girlfriend for taking at least 3 or 4 trips to the engine shop to drop off and pick up all the gear for me what would I do without ya.

Got my hands on a nice camera for some better shots finally.

So here's just one last shot of those beautiful bores before I slapped the head on.

Cleaned the (old) head bolts and oiled the threads and washers lightly. As far as I've read there is nothing wrong with using the old bolts as theyre not a 'torque to yeild' strecht to fit sort of head bolt. Manual states to do in 2 - 3 step process from 76-81nm. I did the first round to 60nm, second to 76 and the last round to 81 in the nice swirl pattern. Didn't end up getting a Cometic +1mm HG as they're quite expensive and would have to be shipped from the UK/USA and I'm getting impatient. Got my hands on a Genuine Mazda head gasket (MLS for the BP). I figured the last one did the best part of a quarter million KM and hopefully this will do a quarter million more.

Only after i started bolting things up to the block again was I informed by a friend that the raw cast iron will start rusting, duh why didnt i know that... So will have to pull some of the little things off the block and give it a quick lick of paint.

Had a block off plate that was meant for where the thermostat goes, decided that I dont really like how the neck of it sticks out. Grinded down the big plate till it was small enough to block the part on the head. Drilled new hole and applied some toyota black and stuck it down. Its no showcar but should work.

Also changed my mind on the clutch, having had no real experience with the Xtreme kit didnt quite trust it would hold the torque I'm chasing. Sold it off to a friend and bought myself a Direct Clutch Services HD pressure plate with Excedy organic disk through Automotive Plus. I know for a fact this kit holds power very well as a friend of mine with a very special Borg Warner setup is using this clutch with no issues.

Bought a roll of 4mm silicon vac line to run to the ecu, boost control, guage and bov. 8m should do.

So I've had quite a successful weekend.

Got my hands on a brand new oil pump for $50 managed to fit pretty much everything to the engine.

Oil pump installed, waterpump installed, Auto+ coolant reroute fitted, intake and turbo gear fitted, sump fitted, timing belt installed, injectors and rail fitted, SE engine mounts.

Painted the block in a metallic 'black' which looks more like a dark grey. Really liked the colour and had heaps left in the can. Managed to squeeze it all out and spray the rocker cover, intake, fuel rail, and some other misc bits. Sump I sprayed in the same stuff I sprayed the gearbox in. It's no art peice but hell, looks much better than it did before :D

Will be sorting out the oil drain line for the turbo this week, had a 90 degree fitting for the sump but its too tight of an angle for the braided hose. A 30 degree fitting should be perfect.

Oil feed will be taken off the side of the head as its a slightly lower pressure due to the restricter between the block/head. Water inlet will however be taken from the side of the block and fed back in through the waterpump inlet.

I'm hoping that i can bypass the inlet/outlet of coolant on the bottom of the throttle body without too much issue.

If all goes to plan should hopefully be slotting the motor back in its home next weekend :D

Cheers. Yeah I'll keep the intake brace, surely it's there for a reason from factory (not just to make oil changes a pain) probably to do with vibration/load distributing I'd say.

Got my hands on a set of Corolla 1zz coil on plugs with the pig tails for $110 from my local wreckers. All genuine denso (which I know for a fact cost $250each new)
