Peterborough SA

interesting place this. I pulled up to take this photo of the car next to the train etc and these two young guys probably around 23/25 arrived on the scene and were looking around near the front intercooler on the mx5
I thought a possible pair of admirers of the marque and got out to talk to them but unfortunately was a bit disappointed when they told me they were chasing a rare pokemon. a frigg'in pokemon I thought.
so after they had caught it on their ipad or so the wife said they pissed off into the park. anyway I thought what happened to chasing skirt!
anyway further down the track I thought it over and 40 years back I suppose it's wasn't that much different to todat's craze. in those days it was cb radios  and I recall I was probably as mad as them

Well I have not decided yet if it will stay or I will park it for next years run  So I have a bit to think about like

It was around 1pm as I drove out of the busier stage 1. section of the open limit speed trial and entered the stage 2. from Ti-tree to near Wycliffe Wells. Temperature wise it had warmed up quite a bit and I remember saying to the wife it must be well over the 20 degree mark outside and pretty close to air-con territory and I might have to remove my jumper..... .
The driving conditions in this section were perfect with large fluffy white clouds dotting the blue sky and visibility down the gun barrel road as good as it gets. Since arriving in the Territory and the higher speed limit of 130 kph plus I had made it a daily habit to drive with my headlights on at all time. Today was no exception especially after sighting a few of those triple decker road trains coming towards me in the stage 1. section.
The black surface was good with no ripples or rough spots and i'd been cruising along at the best part of 15 minutes or more at well over the old scale 'ton' or around 5000 revs or more and the car was just loafing along and eating up the klm. every now and again i'd back off on the loud pedal and drop to a mere 140 kph and you would be delighted and hear the pops and crackles from the 3" stainless exhaust with remote muffler set on fully open enter the cabin, It was like music to our ears. Then I would touch the loud pedal again and run it back up to a 180 kph cruise in just a matter of seconds and repeat the process all over again.
This went on for klm after klm with not a soul in site. Just good open driving country and a great bit of fun on a smooth black top surface with a 360 degree visibility. Only days before with the sun out it had been hard to judge distance with cars coming in the opposite direction but today with heavy cloud cover and no traffic - What a day to drive.
The road continued to snake its way along and then opened out into a long flat flood like plain and it was like you were driving on top of a billiard table. Visibility was good for miles and best of all not a car in site. I thought then and there it was as good as time as any for a quick burst as I pressed hard on the loud pedal.
It was the very first time I had really tried this move on the 300 horses available in 6th gear so I didn't really know what to expect so I gripped the steering wheel hard. The very first thing i saw was the boost gauge flicking wildly to the right and just past the 20lb of boost mark. Followed immediately the rear end just squatted down on the tarmac and took up the additional extra horsepower. After that it was just straight off down the road drama free - no sideway movement - no danger to driver or passenger and no different if I'd accelerated from 100 to 130 kph and all over in a matter of seconds.....and just as quick as that too! So extremely safe and fuss free!
wife said I got you a photo as I settled back again to a steady 150 kph cruise. I said it's pretty quick isn't it You or the car she replied . Hmmmm I thought! Anyway it was overall a pretty good day.
Further down the road I pulled over at a roadside rest area. The Adaptronic 440PNP rev limit is 7500!
