Got a GMB water pump off eBay and a genuine gasket because I don't trust those paper aftermarket ones.

Will have to get a better photo for you later but here it is mock fitted up to the motor

Had a couple mates around today to pull the engine out (cheers boys) came out easy peasy.

I am choosing to maintain Air con and power steer so left those hanging still sealed up.

Definitely needs a decent clean up while the bay is clear.

Tore the sump off to get cleaned and drilled for the oil drain. Looks pretty good on the inside for a quarter million km engine.

Also picked up a good condition 5 speed that has approx 50,000km on it (from what previous owners states). Cleaned it up and rattle canned it nice and pretty again. Should be much better than the current box I have which crunches third every time.

Got in on that 4 for 3 yoko deal and got a full set of 205/50R15 AD08R for $600 fitted. Only done about 500km on them but bloody brilliant hands down best street tyre on the market.

Thanks for the pic.
Looks like out turbos mount in a similar way which is what I expected from your previous pic, although yours appear further foward.
Am curious to see how much clearance you have from the chassis rail one installed.

Couple little things came in the mail today

3 port MAC boost solenoid. The thought of having no boost control or a boost-t made me cringe so this should help make the boost come on nicely with no spiking.

Also found out that the FM kit has a special lower radiator hose that I don't have to clear the intercooler piping. I couldn't justify the ~$100 or so it was for just that hose out of the US. So picked up this Gates flexible hose that I can move in any direction necessary for $30.

Automotive plus pointed me in the direction of Nitrodann for some piping for the coolant reroute kit, here it is looks pretty good to me should hopefully all work. Cheers Dan

So today was all about cleaning cleaning cleaning. Think I spent a solid 3 hours just getting old silicon and gasket off the engine.

Ports all cleaned up (as best as I could)

And other bits that I will get sand blasted and powder coated in a nice black.

My fingers are bleeding and sore but progress is progress. At this point I'm very seriously considering just doing the head gasket too. But this will add another week or two and a considerable cash amount to do... Will have to decide pretty soon I'm dying not driving my car around

Well I pulled the trigger and thought screw it I'll do the head gasket... Sent her off to a shop to get fully reco'd and they're organizing me a Cometic MLS 1mm thicker ( .040" for you old timers).

I've also told them to pull the old exhaust studs out so I can put new ones in. Mainly because I don't want to deal with one when it snaps.

Pistons are filthy but look good otherwise. Bores look surprisingly good too.

I've been told by the shop to use nothing but a sharpening stone to clean the block surface :S I don't know how I feel about that though...

Well I screwed up cleaning the block and now have to get the whole thing decked -_- not what I was initially planning on doing but gotta do what ya gotta do.

Made a boo boo with the razor blade and made a nice gouge right where you really don't want to have one... Stripped the block down and sending the lot of it down to where my head is being reco'd.

Going to get a rehone, dip, new rings and bearings and some special rods I got my grubby hands on.

GTR 323 rods on the left compared to standard rods on the right. Should keep me safe

Plot twist, was meant to be picking up those GTR rods yesterday but seller decided to pull out of the deal... Oh well I'm ordering something better.

Engine shop now has all the bits and will be doing the work over the next couple weeks. I asked them to quote me on assembly of the whole motor and opted out as it wouldve been $700+ in labour alone. So for the first time in a few years ill be assembling the whole bottom end. Hopefully all goes to plan with no more hiccups.
